LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB-Fox 41)--Unemployment benefits are running out for thousands, and some Kentuckians are lashing out at a senator they are blaming for the problem.

Some held a rally together to get Washington's attention right outside of Senator Mitch McConnell's office Wednesday.

Protesters cheer as cars roll by and honk, and for them, the more honks the better. They want their message heard loud and clear: "Can you hear us Senator McConnell? Can you hear us?" they chant. They want Senator Mitch McConnell and other Republicans to stop blocking an extension of unemployment benefits.

Brenda Johnson was laid off sixteen months ago, and her benefits have just now run out. "It's so hard right now to find a job, you know, I'm not used to this. I don't want to be beggin' people."

A large group of unemployed workers and labor activists rallied outside McConnell's office, and say they are fed up. "I call for solidarity!" one woman shouted through a megaphone.

"He don't have to worry about where his next meal is or how he's going to pay a bill," said Johnson.

"Without that pay right there, people have to be concerned about being able to keep their homes, being able to feed their families, and the continuation of life," said protester Kirk Gillenwaters, "but unfortunately Mitch doesn't see fit to extend these benefits and the toll it's taking on the people across the state of Kentucky and the United States."

A small group actually tried to go and talk to the senator. They were able to speak to a spokesperson who said McConnel is in support of extending benefits, but in a fiscally responsible manner. "What we're not willing to do," said the senator in a previous statement, "is use worthwhile programs as an excuse to burden our children and grandchildren with an even bigger national debt than we've got."

The protesting and people riling up like this is only going to get worse. As more and more men and women lose their benefits and still cannot find work. They will grow more and more desperate to feed and house their families. If we don't help these people who are struggling and are adamantly trying to find work with no success then these people will be forced into drastic measures. Crime will rise, murders, and suicides are going to grow and people will start to lose all hope. We must as the United States Of America help them.

The Kansas family known for protesting at the funerals for fallen American soldiers has won a legal victory in Nebraska.U.S. District Court Judge Richard Kopf gave Megan Phelps-Roper permission to desecrate the American flag and warned that she was not to be arrested.Phelps-Roper walked on the flag in Lincoln on Wednesday in a political protest."It's a way of showing that this thing, this piece of cloth that you worship, is worthless to help you," she said.Kopf ruled in favor of Phelps-Roper and against Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning. His ruling said that if Phelps-Roper's First Amendment rights were impaired, she would suffer irreparable injury.The ruling also said that Phelps-Roper's actions posed no threat to Bruning and that the attorney general's effort to stop her would be unconstitutional.
Kopf also said that while the public may not like the fact that Phelps-Roper has a constitutional right to dishonor the American flag and the Nebraska flag, the First Amendment trumps the citizenry's preference for patriotism."They're enticing people to violence and I think the government should act," said Sarpy County Attorney Lee Polikov.He said the ruling should have been less about free speech and more about public safety."It's using the flag as a tool to create disturbances, and that's what she's doing," Polikov said.

I am appalled that a judge would even say this is constitutional for her to do this. When praying or even having "Under God" in our Pledge of Allegiance has come under fire as unconstitutional. But hate is constitutional? Wow our country is so messed up and it is only getting worse. How can we get our country back on track when even our judicial system is for those who hate and want to bring this country down?

Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Worker Has Worries For Gulf Coast Workers Health

Anchorage, Alaska (CNN) -- Two decades ago, Roy Dalthorp helped clean up the rocky shores of Prince William Sound after the tanker Exxon Valdez ran aground, producing what was then the largest oil spill in U.S. history.

Today, with that record surpassed by the 11-week-old disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, Dalthorp struggles to breathe. He coughs, and his failing eyes sometimes tear up uncontrollably.

Dalthorp told CNN that he was "slowly poisoned" during the Alaska cleanup effort -- and he says some of those now working to clean up the BP spill off Louisiana and neighboring states are risking the same fate.

BP says it is working with federal health and environmental regulators to make sure cleanup workers are protected from the hazards of the Gulf spill. But observers like Rikki Ott, an environmental activist who studied the Exxon Valdez spill, said cleanup workers in the Gulf are showing "the exact identical symptoms down here that we had 21 years ago."

Dalthorp says his troubles started when the then-out-of-work oil worker joined the Exxon Valdez cleanup effort. For six weeks, he lived and worked aboard a ship that ran boilers to heat sea water. The 120- to 140-degree water was used to blast crude off the shoreline, and it left plumes of oily-smelling steam in the surrounding air.

"I had no choices, because I was behind on my house payments, and no health insurance," he said.

Soon he began to cough. Teams from the Environmental Protection Agency were monitoring the cleanup, but "nobody ever checked with us," Dalthorp said.

Tanker owner Exxon paid to study the effects of the spill on nearly every creature that came into contact with the 11 million gallons that were dumped into Prince William Sound -- except people.

"Clams and mussels, to fish and otters, to ducks and eagles, and even deer and bears," said Anchorage lawyer Dennis Mestas, who represented another worker who was involved in the cleanup. "But they never studied what this oil was doing to the workers -- to the human beings in Prince William Sound."

Mestas warns history may be repeating itself thousands of miles away in the Gulf of Mexico, with evidence of workers getting sick, and their medical records being controlled by BP.

United Kingdom: Man Discovers Largest Roman Coin Collection In British History

One of the largest ever finds of Roman coins in Britain has been made by a man using a metal detector.

The hoard of more than 52,000 coins dating from the 3rd Century AD was found buried in a field near Frome in Somerset.

The coins were found in a huge jar just over a foot (30cm) below the surface by Dave Crisp, from Devizes in Wiltshire.

"I have made many finds over the years, but this is my first major coin hoard," he said.

After his metal detector gave a "funny signal", Mr Crisp says he dug down 14in before he found what had caused it.

"I put my hand in, pulled out a bit of clay and there was a little Radial, a little bronze Roman coin. Very, very small, about the size of my fingernail."

Mr Crisp reported the find to the authorities, allowing archaeologists to excavate the site.

Since the discovery in late April, experts from the Portable Antiquities Scheme at the British Museum have been working through the find.

The coins were all contained in a single clay pot. Although it only measured 18in (45cm) across, the coins were packed inside and would have weighed an estimated 160kg (350lb).

Hawaii has shown they still believe in traditional marriage! Veto of House Bill 444!

"There has not been a bill I have contemplated more or an issue I have thought more deeply about during my eight years as governor than House Bill 444 and the institution of marriage," Lingle said at a news conference. "I have been open and consistent in my opposition to same-sex marriage, and find that House Bill 444 is essentially same-sex marriage by another name."

"It would be a mistake to allow a decision of this magnitude to be made by one individual or a small group of elected officials," she said.

"What she did was very just, and I'm very happy about it," said Jay Amina, 50, of Waianae. "It sends a good message throughout the state of Hawaii — that our people here on the islands are standing for traditional marriage."

Five states — California, Nevada, New Jersey, Oregon and Washington — grant essentially all the rights of marriage to same-sex couples without authorizing marriage itself. Iowa, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut and the District of Columbia permit same-sex marriage.

Hawaii & several other states have been continuing to uphold the values of traditional marriage. The Bible clearly shows that marriage is between a man & woman. In history the sexual acts of same sex couples have always been trying to destroy this mind set. When sin comes into the picture it wants to control, manipulate, and demean the true scriptural God given Word.

As Christians we are supposed to show love to all mankind. This can be done, even as hard as it is. But when it comes to marriage, this is a sacred act between man and woman.

I pray for these people who have been fooled that homosexuality is a lifestyle, and that they find the Lord's favor. Learning to trust in Him alone to help them resist the temptation of gay activity.

Wake up Christians! We need to assist them in their life journey in finding Christ & receiving the freedom that is found in Him. God wants to unite the Christian body and set free the captives!

Unemployment Stats Are They Real?

JMC shows how the unemployment stats are really like! Jeremy logs into the Ohio unemployment site and shows that people who are over the 26 weeks can NOT apply for benefits! So where does this put the stats? Will the unemployment ever be extended again? What will happen to those who lost their benefits? Although Unemployment has run out for me and I am still unemployed inspite of applying for jobs every week and going to job interviews when I am called for them. I am fine, because I am a veteran of the U.S Coast Guard I am now enrolled full time in college and have my GI Bill. To allow me to further my education and get a degree so I will be able to get a job prayerfully easier than without the degree. But our worries are for those who didn't have a plan B if and when the unemployment benefits ran out and they are still without jobs. It is for those men and women and their families we made this video. To show that even though it says right there on the website that you can continue to apply and show that you are still unemployed after your benefits run out, so that you can stay in the system in case Congress does change their minds and give more benefits. That is a lie as you see when I log in and it says that I cannot submit anything. Which kicks me and all the other people who have lost their benefits off the unemployment list and onto the "employed" list.
If you are thinking that we should just call unemployment and try to apply that way. That doesn't work either. A friend of mine who lost his job the same time I did called when he saw that he couldn't apply anymore online and was told he could not apply anymore via phone.

Our hearts and prayers go out for those who now have no way to support themselves and their families due to this ruling in Congress. We pray that God provide for your needs and that you will find a job soon. Through Christ All Things Are Possible. Hold tight to that and keep the faith. We are praying for you.

In OHIO-Supreme Court ruled 5-1 That New Employees Risk Getting Fired For Taking Extended Leaves For Any Reason.

The Ohio Supreme Court ruled this week that companies can fire relatively new employees who take time off for pregnancy.

Justices ruled 5-1 that new employees risk getting fired when they take extended leaves for any reason. It's not discriminating against women to include pregnancy leaves, they decided.

The case came before the court because nurse Tiffany McFee was fired from her job in Pataskala, a town of 10,000 located 22 miles east of Columbus. The Pataskala Oaks Care Center fired her because she took pregnancy leave eight months after being hired. Nursing home policy requires employees to be on the job a year before taking an extended leave.

The Columbus Dispatch reports justices ruled that as long as company policies apply to everyone and don't make distinctions between extended leaves for pregnancy and other medical purposes, employers are within their rights to give pregnant women the boot.
