National Day of Prayer Today May 5th

People across America are gathering at many locations today, the National Day of Prayer (NDP), to humble themselves before God in prayer.

On Friday, the White House released a presidential proclamation marking today's observance of the National Day of Prayer -- the constitutionality of which was affirmed in a recent federal court ruling. "Throughout our history, Americans have turned to prayer for strength, inspiration, and solidarity," President Barack Obama states in the proclamation. "Prayer has played an important role in the American story and in shaping our nation's leaders."

Michael Calhoun, director of communications for the NDP Task Force, concurs, noting prayer has been an "indispensible" part of the nation's heritage. "We must remain faithful in our commitment to intercede on behalf of our nation and its leaders -- especially at this challenging time."

Tim WildmonTim Wildmon, president of the American Family Association, says it is important that people pray for America's national leaders -- whether they agree with those leaders or not.

“We need to pray for godly wisdom for our country,” Wildmon says. “That's what we're asking people to do on the National Day of Prayer...remember to honor God with our individual lives and pray for our future here in America because we desperately need God's help -- and without him we will not survive.

Abortion Bill Update- HOUSE Passed "No Funding for Abortion Act"

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 4, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The House on Wednesday afternoon voted 251-175 to pass H.R. 3, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, which makes permanent and universal the annually-approved Hyde amendment. In its current form, the Hyde amendment, which bans federal funding for abortion except for in cases of rape and incest, requires annual approval.

The bill was authored by veteran pro-life leader Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) and sported at least 227 co-sponsors by the time of the vote.

“When public funding and facilitation for abortion isn’t available, children have a greater chance at survival,” said Smith in the general debate before the final vote this afternoon.

“I remember the late Congressman Henry Hyde being moved literally to tears ... when he learned that the Hyde amendment had likely saved the lives of more than one million babies, who today are getting on with their lives, going to school, forging a career,” he added.

In the final vote, all Republicans either voted for or sponsored the bill; 16 Democrats favored it as well (Rep.s Altmire, Boren, Costello, Critz, Cuellar, Donnelly, Holden, Kaptur, Kildee, Lipinski, Matheson, McIntyre, Peterson, Rahall, Ross of Arizona, and Shuler).

The bill is expected to meet with stiffer odds in the Democrat-led Senate, which in March struck down a measure to de-fund abortion giant Planned Parenthood that had strongly passed in the House. President Obama has already threatened to veto H.R. 3.

FBI Warns Beware of Bin Laden Computer Spam and Malware Viruses

The intense public interest surrounding Usama bin Laden is the perfect vehicle for Internet scams and malware, the FBI warned Tuesday, issuing an official warning to “exercise” caution online.

One common piece of malware spreading rapidly on the Internet purports to show photos or videos of bin Laden’s killing. Clicking on these links can wreak havoc on some users’ machines, the agency warned.

“This malicious software or 'malware' can embed itself in computers and spread to users’ contact lists, thereby infecting the systems of associates, friends, and family members,” the FBI said in a statement. “These viruses are often programmed to steal your personally identifiable information.”

Security firms have also been warning of the potential uptick in dangerous spam, citing similar malware episodes in 2004, 05 and 06 -- all related to Bin Laden news.

“News targeting famous/notorious personalities are often used in scams,” Symantec explained on its official blog. “At this moment, we at Symantec Probe Network are observing a huge inflow of legitimate messages carrying links to the news. However, in all likelihood, there will be an increase in spam volume targeting this news.”

Leading security firm Kaspersky Lab began detecting spam e-mail campaigns and Web pages built specifically to game the major search engines within hours of the first reports of his death in a firefight with U.S. forces in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

To Battle Student Fights One Utah School Fines Students For Fighting

The Granite School District is allowing one of its high schools to fine students for fighting. Tuesday night the program got the final approval, but it's been in effect for six weeks.

The deal is if a student fights at Granger High School, they pay $50. This came after a fight was caught on tape between two West Jordan Middle School students posted online in December.

There have been 37 assaults at Granger High this year, according to west Valley City Police. School officials say detention and suspension was not working.

The money collected goes back into school activities and arts. This program will run the remainder of the year and next year as well.

9/11 Family Turns Down Invitation From President Obama To Join Him At Ground Zero Ceremony

As 50 randomly selected families prepare to join President Barack Obama for a ceremony at the World Trade Center site Thursday, one of the invited 9/11 families have decided to pass on the Commander-in-chief's visit.

Although many consider it to be a once in a lifetime invitation, the Vigiano family of Deer Park, Long Island have respectfully declined.

"If this form letter was the invitation, it was kinda lame," John Vigiano told PIX 11 News when describing the email invitation sent to him from the White House.

Jan and John Vigiano received the email invite Tuesday and admitted that they nearly deleted it, thinking it was spam. The private invitation complete with the White House seal informed the couple about President Obama's visit to the World Trade Center site just days after news broke about Osama bin Laden's death.

What rubbed the Vigiano's the wrong way was not what the email said, but how it was addressed.

"It says 'Dear 9-11 family member,' - no names" " John Vigiano said, reading the invite aloud to PIX 11 cameras. "I don't know if its disrespectful, but it doesn't work for me."

The Vigianos lost both their sons on September 11, 2001. John Vigiano Jr. was 36, and a FDNY firefighter, while their youngest Joe Vigiano was an emergency services detective with the NYPD.

"There is no closure," a sobbing John Vigiano said. "There is none."

The Vigiano family is just one of fifty families sent the exclusive invitation to meet the President at what is being billed as a historic visit to Ground Zero Thursday. With all that considered, the mourning father says he's not going.

"I'm honored the President of the United States is coming to New York," he said. "[But] to me its just going to be a photo op."

David Wilkerson's Sons Asks Prayer For His Mother

Rev. David Wilkerson's wife, Gwen Wilkerson, is still recovering in the hospital from the crash that killed her husband.

On Wednesday, doctors worked to repair a broken hip she suffered during the accident, according to her son Gary Wilkerson.

In a brief update published on the World Challenge website, Wilkerson also urged supporters to continue praying for his mother.

"Please pray as she in surgery today to repair a broken hip," he said. "Pray also for her emotional strength after suffering such a loss."

Rev. Wilkerson was buried Monday during a private ceremony for friends and family in Tyler, Texas. The beloved minister was killed April 27 when the car he was driving collided head-on with a truck in east Texas.

Earlier on Wednesday, Gary Wilkerson, also assured supporters of his father's ministries that the work he started will continue.

"Today, with the funeral and burial behind us, the works of Jesus launched through his ministry are still moving on in full force," he said. "Dad was fond of saying, 'The best is yet to come.' I'm convinced he's right."

Times Square Church will hold a public memorial service for Wilkerson in New York City on May 14 at 2 p.m.

Google TV Ad Using Toy Story Movie Character Woody To Promote Homosexuality

By Josephine Vivaldo|Christian Post Contributor

During Tuesday night’s episode of “Glee,” viewers caught the first airing of Google’s ad for the “It Gets Better Project,” which encourages teens that despite all the anti-gay bullying, it eventually “gets better.”

The commercial, promoting the browser Google Chrome, highlights at the end, “the web is what you make of it” after showing celebrities like Anne Hathaway, Lady Gaga, Adam Lambert, Cathy Griffin and Woody from “Toy Story” lending their voice to the campaign.

While it’s not surprising for Alan Chambers of Exodus International, a ministry that helps people who are impacted by homosexuality, to see Fortune 500 companies as well as celebrities endorsing homosexuality, he was surprised and disappointed that they would use a children’s character for the project.

“Children all over the world, including my two children are fans of ‘Toy Story’ and to see a character like that endorsing something that at this point children have no need to know about, it’s disappointing,” he told The Christian Post.

Chambers, who overcame homosexuality and is now a father of two, suspects that if the commercial airs while he and his children are watching a show and “if they happen to see that and ask questions and if they get the full understanding of what the commercial is actually about, we will have to have the conversation. It’s not something I plan to talk to my kids, 5 and 6, about.”

As the commercial is set to be aired in various channels across the country, Chambers only hopes that churches across the country get together to answer the those very concerns related to bullying and homosexuality as well.
