PCC President wants Asia Bibi Released Now

LAHORE, PAKISTAN (Worthy News)– The President of the Pakistan Christian Congress demanded the immediate release of Asia Bibi Saturday.
PCC President Nazir Bhatti expressed outrage that Bibi — a young Christian mother sentenced to death by a lower court on false accusations of blasphemy — has been waiting two years for the Lahore High Court to hear her appeal.
Thousands of poor Pakistanis remain behind bars while awaiting hearing dates for their appeals in Pakistan's back-logged high courts.
“(The) Islamic Republic of Pakistan is a country where justice is never ensured to religious minorities,” said Bhatti.
“Pakistani Christian have lost their confidence in (their) judicial system … because it protected and released Muslims who attacked Churches, killed worshipers, burnt alive women and children (and) gunned down pastors," he said. "(It) never punished Muslims who filed false blasphemy cases against Christians, never charged Muslims who (forcefully) converted Christian women to Islam and gang raped Christian girls …”

Missionaries in the Knesset?

Many MKs opened their mailboxes on Monday morning and were appalled to find a New Testament inside, sent to them by a messianic organization.

The Bible Society in Israel, a messianic Judaism institution for research, publication and dissemination of holy books, sent a “Book of Testaments,” which combines the Tanach and New Testament in one, leather-bound volume, published with references in Hebrew for the first time.

MK Tzipi Hotovely (Likud) sent a letter of complaint to Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin, writing that “it cannot be that missionary materials can be distributed in the Knesset.”

“Texts that were used to persecute and harass [Jews] cannot be distributed through the front door of the State of Israel,” Hotovely fumed.

Christian Allies Caucus chairman MK David Rotem (Yisrael Beytenu) said that the mailing is “not missionary work, but an act of foolishness.”

Shas MK Nissim Ze’ev did not receive a package, but said they crossed the line between free speech and proselytizing.

“These are people who believe that all the Jews in Israel must be converted to Christianity. They get donations from all over the world towards that cause. How can we give them freedom?” Ze’ev, one of the few Shas MKs who is an ordained rabbi, asked.

Egyptians chant 'Monica' at Hillary Clinton

Egyptian protesters got personal with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Sunday as she left Alexandria after re-opening the city’s U.S. consulate.
Clinton was met by protesters throwing tomatoes and shoes and chanting of “Monica, Monica.” One tomato hit an Egyptian official in the face, according to CNN. State Department staffers told the news network Clinton’s car was around the corner, and she wasn’t hit by any of the projectiles.

Syria in civil war, Red Cross says

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) says fighting in Syria is so widespread that the conflict is now in effect a civil war.
The change in status means combatants will now be officially subject to the Geneva Conventions, leaving them more exposed to war crimes prosecutions.
The Red Cross had previously regarded only the areas around Idlib, Homs and Hama as war zones.
Meanwhile, the Syrian government is disputing claims it used heavy weapons.
Activists initially described fighting on Thursday in the village of Tremseh near Hama as a massacre of dozens of civilians, but later accounts suggested most of the dead were armed rebels.
The UN accused Syrian forces of using heavy artillery, tanks and helicopters, but Damascus denied those allegations and said just two civilians had been killed.
The accusations, if proved, would mean Damascus had broken an agreement it made with envoy Kofi Annan.
Later on Sunday, video footage emerged purporting to show heavy fighting in southern Damascus.
Activists claimed the fighting was the most intense seen in the capital since the start of anti-government protests in March last year.
They said tanks and mortars were used, and in some areas residents were fleeing.
There has been no independent confirmation of their claims.

WARNING: Social justice protesters march in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem

Over 5,000 take part in rally in Tel Aviv to mark year since first tents pitched on Rothschild Boulevard; 150 join alternative protest along promenade; 500 march toward PM's J'lem residence.

Social justice protesters in Habima Square Photo: Michael Omer-Man Over 5,000 people marched through the streets of Tel Aviv Saturday evening to mark one year since protest leader Dafni Leef set up her tent on Rothschild Boulevard, kicking off last summer's social justice protest movement.
Marching from Habima Square to the government offices on Kaplan Street, protesters filled the streets with the same chants as the year before. Like last summer, most chants centered on demands of social justice and the return of a welfare state.
Signs and chants called on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to resign, calling the government corrupt. But save for a few signs from Meretz and communist parties, protesters made it clear that they were not entirely welcoming even of socially left-leaning politicians.

"Bibi, Shelly, it's the same revolution," demonstrators chanted, referring to Labor leader Shelly Yechimovich.
Though the demonstration lacked the large stages and organized speeches of earlier protests, speakers' corners popped up along Kaplan Street as the march came to an end.
While some protesters preached about equality not only in military service but also in human rights and gender and sexual-orientation, others appeared to have a more personal message.
Telling a thin crowd how he received a parking ticket that morning while visiting the beach, one soap-box speaker who did not want to identify himself called on his audience to "go out and steal back [from the state]" the next morning.
Meanwhile, about 150 protesters bearing signs calling for social justice and more government spending in the periphery marched down the emptied Tel Aviv promenade from north to south on Saturday night.
Organizers of the gathering, which aimed to be an alternative to the larger demonstration that was taking place at the same time at Rabin Square, said they set up a separate protest because they believed the other event had become politicized.
"The social justice movement has succeeded in gaining the attention of the public, but some conflicts within the leadership of the movement occurred which is why we are here," said Rahum Herzl, of Nahariya, who was one of the organizers. "Right now, for instance, there is a protest in Haifa organized by Hadash," a Jewish-Arab socialist party.

Teachers across the country face pay freezes and possible layoffs, but the heads of the two biggest teachers unions saw their pay jump 20 percent last year, to nearly half a million dollars apiece.
American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten's pay jumped to $407,323 between 2010 and 2011, while her counterpart at the National Education Association, Dennis Van Roekel, got a raise to $362,644. Factor in stipends and other paid expenses and Weingarten took in $493,859 and Van Roekel $460,060 for 2011.

Progressives' academic incest

Academic Collectivism relies on the claims of “experts” rather than original documents as the standard for truth.

~ David Barton
The fifth and final sophism by the left that undermines realism, truth and historical accuracy, or what David Barton in his new book on Jefferson calls “the five malpractices of modern history,” is Academic Collectivism, “whereby writers and scholars quote each other and those from their peer group rather than consult original sources. This destructive and harmful tendency now dominates the modern academic world, with a heavy reliance on peer review as the almost exclusive standard for historical truth.”
I am presently working on a law review article on Oliver Wendell Holmes’ famous 1918 Harvard Law Review article titled “Natural Law.” This work, along with perhaps his 1886 book, “The Common Law” and a handful of dissenting opinions he wrote in the late 1920s and early 1930s as a justice on the Supreme Court, are what we now view as Holmes’ most significant works. Nevertheless, his “Natural Law” article has zero footnotes even though it was published in the venerated Harvard Law Review.
Why? I theorize that Holmes had such contempt for America’s Judeo-Christian worldview and Natural Law, which integrated legality and morality in addition to being the primary legal philosophy of America’s constitutional framers, that he felt it beneath his vaunted and legendary intellect to deign any respect to this subject by citing original sources. In other words, the entire law review article is Holmes merely ranting and raving against America’s Judeo-Christian origins, making his “Natural Law” a most cynical, unremarkable and despicable treatment of the subject matter.
Barton offers an engaging but chilling case of this historical malpractice, citing a 2005 book called “The Godless Constitution.” In that work, Cornell professors Isaac Kramnick and Laurence Moore present the popular academic sophism that the Founding Fathers were nothing but a bunch of atheists, agnostics and deists who knowingly constructed a secular government, a democracy based on humanism. This phony theme has become a staple in most colleges and universities throughout America; law reviews, law journals, courts and other professors reflexively refer to this work as a trustworthy source to “prove” the Founding Fathers’ deficit of religious principle. After presenting such a radical view of history, one would expect to see numerous footnotes at the end of the book, but like my example of Holmes’ “Nature Law,” Kramnick and Moore arrogantly acknowledge that “we have dispensed with the usual scholarly apparatus of footnotes.”
This is an incredible admission by two so-called legal scholars with Ph.D.s! They offer not the slightest support defending their sweeping generalizations and radical claims regarding an alleged lack of faith among the framers of the Constitution, and like sock puppets their peers in academia seemingly in unison deem this book a grand scholarly triumph.
These are some of the great scams of what I call the Progressive Revolution taking over the public schools founded by the Puritans with William Penn as America’s first superintendent. Since the 1870s, progressives have gradually taken over the Christian academy where 187 of the first 200 colleges in America were Christian, Bible-teaching institutions. Entrance to Harvard, Yale and Princeton required strong knowledge of the Bible. In 2012 the academy is essentially a pseudo-academic progressive propaganda mill.
The effects since the late 19th century? Barton writes: “This type of ‘peer review’ is incestuous, with one scholar quoting another, each recirculating the other’s views, but with none of them consulting sources or ideas outside his or her own academic gene pool. The presence of a Ph.D. after one’s name today somehow suggests academic infallibility – but this view must change if truth, accuracy, and objectivity are ever again to govern the presentation of history and historical figures. Primary source documents and historical evidence are the proper standard for historical truth, not professors’ opinions.”
Academic Collectivism relies on the claims of “experts” rather than original documents as the standard for truth, Barton writes. It promotes an adulterous, complex bureaucratic system of peer review scholarship as the sole measurement for determining whether a historical fact is correct or false. However, think about this question: If a liar with a Ph.D. validates another liar with a PhD, isn’t the entire affair one, giant, colossal lie?
This is the state of Academic Collectivism in 2012!

BIBLICAL PROPORTIONS:U.S. drought biggest since 1956, climate agency says

(CNN) -- The pool is closed in Warrenton, Missouri. Cattle ponds are drying up in Arkansas. Illinois is in danger of losing its corn crop.
Even the mighty Mississippi River is feeling low amid what the National Climatic Data Center reported Monday is the largest drought since the 1950s.
The center said about 55% of the country was in at least moderate short-term drought in June for the first time since December 1956, when 58% of the country was in a moderate to extreme drought.
The hot, dry weather in June, which ranked as the third-driest month nationally in at least 118 years, according to the center, made the problem worse. The portion of the country suffering from severe to extreme short-term drought dramatically expanded in June, up to nearly 33% from 23% the month before.
Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn called it a "natural disaster of epic proportions."
"We've never see a drought like this and we have to make sure we do something about it," he said, calling on Congress to expedite passage of the farm bill. Quinn said seven more counties will be designated Monday as disaster areas, in addition to 26 already on the list, and farmers can apply for federal relief funds.
In Arkansas -- where the National Drought Mitigation Center reported that ranchers are having to haul water for cattle because ponds have dried out and wells can't keep up with demands -- 83-year-old retired farmer Don Hudson said this is about the worst he's ever seen it.
"It's very brown right now, ain't no grass at all," he said. "We're still feeding hay because the cows aren't even going out to graze."

Treaty a threat to 2nd Amendment, says gun group

A non-profit lobbying organization that aims to preserve and defend the Second Amendment says the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty currently under debate is "extremely dangerous."

The United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs says many governments have voiced concerns about "the absence of globally agreed rules for all countries to guide their decision on arms transfers" -- thus the negotiations on an arms trade treaty. "A robust arms trade treaty can make a difference for millions of people confronted with insecurity, deprivation and fear," states the website for treaty conference.

Erich Pratt of Gun Owners of America (GOA) sees the treaty quite differently. "We think this treaty is extremely dangerous -- not only to our American sovereignty but to the Second Amendment," he tells OneNewsNow. "Registering gun owners and their firearms is one of the key threats in this treaty."

Proponents of the treaty say it is about controlling international gun trafficking. Pratt's reaction?

"When you listen to the official delegates at these conferences, you see that what they're really after is our firearms," says the GOA spokesman. "In fact, that was stated very clearly by the Mexico delegate this month during one of the sessions. He said that individual rights, like our Second Amendment freedoms, are not a reason to keep them from imposing restrictions upon those rights."

Organizations like Amnesty International USA claim this treaty would rein in unregulated weapons that they say kill an estimated 1,500 people a day globally. Still, Pratt says that is not the fault of the tens of thousands of responsible gun owners.
