Letter From Senator Sherrod Brown in Support of Expanding Veteran Educational & Employment Benefits

Dear Mr. Caverley:

Thank you for sharing your support for expanding educational and employment benefits for veterans.

Providing for our veterans must be a clear and unmistakable priority, and we must ensure that our men and women in uniform have adequate access to educational and employment opportunities. Ensuring access to training and educational programs will enhance a veteran’s skill set and foster greater employment opportunities in a competitive job market.

To increase such opportunities for our veterans, I have introduced the Veterans Education Tuition Support Act which would provide additional educational assistance under the Montgomery GI Bill to veterans pursuing a degree in science, technology, engineering, or math.

In addition, I was a proud cosponsor of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2007. This legislation would amend federal veterans’ benefits provisions to expand educational assistance to include those veterans who have served on active duty on or after September 11, 2001. In recognition of the greater need for flexibility in a post 9/11 military world, it includes increases in available funding and allows for the pursuit of approved educational and training programs while on active duty. This legislation became public law on June 30, 2008.

The Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Improvements Act of 2010 (S.3447) will expand the reach of the Montgomery GI Bill and afford veterans the educational benefits they've earned. As the Senate considers this legislation, I will certainly keep your strong support in mind

In addition to the services and benefits afforded through legislation, you may consider contacting a local VA facility or VFW to explore available employment resources. Also, www.hirevets.gov

is a federal government site designed to provide a comprehensive approach to matching veterans with employment opportunities.

As a member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, I will continue working to ensure that veterans receive the benefits they have earned. As these issues come before the Senate, I will be sure to keep your views in mind. Thank you again for writing me.

Sincerely,

Sherrod Brown
United States Senator

Hawaii has shown they still believe in traditional marriage! Veto of House Bill 444!

"There has not been a bill I have contemplated more or an issue I have thought more deeply about during my eight years as governor than House Bill 444 and the institution of marriage," Lingle said at a news conference. "I have been open and consistent in my opposition to same-sex marriage, and find that House Bill 444 is essentially same-sex marriage by another name."

"It would be a mistake to allow a decision of this magnitude to be made by one individual or a small group of elected officials," she said.

"What she did was very just, and I'm very happy about it," said Jay Amina, 50, of Waianae. "It sends a good message throughout the state of Hawaii — that our people here on the islands are standing for traditional marriage."

Five states — California, Nevada, New Jersey, Oregon and Washington — grant essentially all the rights of marriage to same-sex couples without authorizing marriage itself. Iowa, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut and the District of Columbia permit same-sex marriage.

JMC Ministries Response

Hawaii & several other states have been continuing to uphold the values of traditional marriage. The Bible clearly shows that marriage is between a man & woman. In history the sexual acts of same sex couples have always been trying to destroy this mind set. When sin comes into the picture it wants to control, manipulate, and demean the true scriptural God given Word.

As Christians we are supposed to show love to all mankind. This can be done, even as hard as it is. But when it comes to marriage, this is a sacred act between man and woman.

I pray for these people who have been fooled that homosexuality is a lifestyle, and that they find the Lord's favor. Learning to trust in Him alone to help them resist the temptation of gay activity.

Wake up Christians! We need to assist them in their life journey in finding Christ & receiving the freedom that is found in Him. God wants to unite the Christian body and set free the captives!
