Munchin' Lunch at Chick-fil-A: Same-Sex Smoochin' Hits Chicken Chain

OHIO STATE STUDY: New Amish Community Founded Every 3 1/2 Weeks

A new Ohio State University study of Amish communities in the United States and Ontario, Canada, shows explosive growth taking place in the insular Christian sect. On average, a new Amish community is founded every three and a half weeks.

The Amish do not proselytize, so the growth comes from having a lot of children and few members leaving their community.
"They're doubling their population about every 21 to 22 years, primarily because they produce large families and the vast majority of daughters and sons remain in the community as adults baptized into the faith, starting their own families and sustaining their religious beliefs and practices," said Joseph Donnermeyer, professor of rural sociology in Ohio State's School of Environment and Natural Resources, who led the census project.
The census estimates that there are 251,000 Amish in the United States and Ontario, Canada. They are dispersed among 456 settlements, up from 179 settlements in a 1990 census.

Saudis release Ethiopian Christians

Almost three dozen imprisoned Christian Ethiopians in Saudi Arabia have been freed after months of being held by the authorities there.

The 35 Ethiopians were imprisoned last December 17 for conducting a prayer meeting in a private home.

"We understand that the Saudi's assaulted, harassed, and pressured the Christians to convert to Islam during the time of their incarceration," says International Christian Concern's Jonathan Racho.

According to Racho, the female prisoners were especially mistreated and humiliated.

After International Christian Concern launched a campaign to free the Christians, the Saudis changed their message several times, claiming the Ethiopians were mixing with the opposite gender and were engaged in human trafficking.

"They deceive the international community by claiming that they want to promote tolerance between Muslims, Christians, Jews and others," says the organization's spokesman, "but in fact, the Saudis are one of the most Christian-persecuting countries in the world. [In addition] the Saudis also export a radical form of Islam and thereby fuel persecution of Christians elsewhere."

World On Alert For Massive Solar Storm

Power grids, communications and satellites could be knocked out by a massive solar storm in the next two years, scientists warn.
Experts say the sun is reaching a peak in its 10-year activity cycle, putting the Earth at greater risk from solar storms.
Mike Hapgood, a space weather specialist at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory near Didcot, Oxfordshire, said: "Governments are taking it very seriously. These things may be very rare but when they happen, the consequences can be catastrophic."
He warned that solar storms are increasingly being put on national risk registers used for disaster planning, alongside other events like tsunamis and volcanic eruptions.
There is 12% chance of a major solar storm every decade - making them a roughly one-in-100-year event. The last major storm was more than 150 years ago.

The Three R’s of Christian Engagement in the Culture War

I know, I know—you really don’t like the term “culture war.” The mission of the church is not to “reclaim” America. The growth of the church does not rely on political victories or societal approval. And we don’t want the people we are trying to reach to think we are at war with them. I understand the phrase sounds more aggressive, confrontational, and militaristic than we like.
But call it what you want—a culture war, a battle of ideas, an ideological struggle—there is no question we have deep division in America. The most obvious division right now concerns homosexuality. When Dan Cathy’s off-handed, rather ordinary comment in of support traditional marriage sends big city mayors out on their moral high horses wielding the coercive club of political power—and when the subsequent response from middle America is a record-breaking avalanche of support for Chick-fil-A—you know there is more than a skirmish afoot. I know every generation thinks they are facing unprecedented problems, but it really does feel like free speech, religious freedom, and the institution of marriage are up for grabs in our day.
Given this reality, how should Christians respond?
Let me suggest three R’s.

ARIZONA: Rutherford still fighting for jailed Bible study leader

Efforts are being made to free a Phoenix man who was recently jailed for holding Bible studies at his home.

When Michael Salman ran into trouble for conducting Bible studies on his property, he constructed a separate structure in his back yard in an attempt to satisfy the city's building codes. That structure still failed to meet the city codes, so he was taken to court, ordered to jail for 60 days, and fined $12,000.

The Rutherford Institute's John Whitehead tells OneNewsNow Salman remains in custody.

John Whitehead"He's still in tent city, which is a Guantanamo-like facility," Whitehead reports. "The temperature some days there has been 140 degrees. There's no air conditioning. They're in tents on the ground, by the way."

The state Supreme Court has denied the Institute's motion to free Salman, but the request has been re-filed with the argument that the court did not apply the proper law.

"We're looking at filing another motion next week," Whitehead explains. "What the government is telling Suzanne Salman now is they're going to be sending police to her door every once in a while, coming in her home, checking and making sure he's not doing Bible studies. We believe that violates the Fourth Amendment. So, this family's under a lot of heat."

ISRAEL PM: If Iran goes nuclear, it may actually use bomb

If Iran gets a nuclear bomb it may actually use it, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Monday, rejecting the notion that Tehran would act responsibly if it became a member of the world’s nuclear “club.”

Netanyahu, in a meeting with visiting Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr, spelled out five things that would likely happen, were Iran allowed to go nuclear: There will be nuclear proliferation in the Middle East as various other actors will then want to have a bomb; Iran will have a firmer hand on the “choke point of the world’s oil supply,” namely the Strait of Hormuz; there will be a magnification of global terrorism because the terrorists under Iran’s sway will believe that they have immunity; and Israel’s cities will be rocketed even more because those firing the rockets will feel that they enjoy a nuclear umbrella.

That the Iranians might actually use the bomb is a reality that cannot be denied, Netanyahu said.

“This is a regime that has broken every rule in the book,” he added. “They very likely could use weapons of mass death.”

Netanyahu said there was an illusion among many in the world that if Iran acquired nuclear weapons, it would behave responsibly like the world’s other nuclear states.

Created Equal: Fall Campus Justice Ride Oct. 15-19

Columbus, OH – August 8, 2012 – Created Equal is preparing to hit on the road again with our Justice Ride.   Several times a year we load our vans with youth and go on the road to cities across America to stimulate dialogue about abortion.
On October 15-19, our Justice Riders will conduct outreach in several key battleground states at several large universities.  See our tentative schedule below:
  • University of Minnesota
  • University of Cincinnati
  • Northern Kentucky University
  • Purdue University
  • Cincinnati State University
Emily, one of our Justice Riders, wrote about one of her encounters this way:
Today I was approached by a young woman claiming she was pro-choice, but after looking at the pictures for several moments, she began to question her stance.  Confused, she asked me to explain abortion and why I was standing there.   After about 10 minutes of explaining abortion, both political parties' stand on abortion, and why I personally was there, she was shocked.  She admitted that she was wrong in her past beliefs and asked if Created Equal had a website she could go and find out more on this issue she now stood for ... which was no longer pro-choice, but pro-life.  She thanked me over and over for my time and gave me a big hug!  It was such an amazing experience, and I thank the Lord He allowed me to be the one to speak to her.
See our fall Justice Ride flyer.

Pro-Life Alert: SBA List Bus Coming to Ohio

Dear Pro-Life Friend,

I’m excited to tell you that from Wednesday, August 22 through Friday, August 24, the Susan B. Anthony List’s “Women Speak Out: Abortion is NOT Health Care” Bus Tour is coming to Ohio!

Follow our bus tour as it travels across five states at www.sbabus.com. You can also find out information on our speakers and we will be updating the site with more details about each stop.  Below is our schedule for Ohio – mark your calendars now:

         Wednesday, August 22, 2012

         10:00 AM – Toledo, OH
         12:30 PM – Lima, OH
         3:00 PM – Dayton, OH

         Thursday, August 23, 2012

         10:00 AM – Cincinnati, OH
         1:00 PM – Columbus, OH
         3:00 PM – Zanesville, OH

         Friday, August 24, 2012

         10:00 AM – Akron, OH
         1:00 PM – Steubenville, OH
         2:45 PM – Wheeling, WV

Leading the bus tour is the SBA List’s very own Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave. I’m also thrilled to tell you that we’ll be joined by a very special guest on all our Ohio stops: Jill Stanek. After witnessing the deaths of babies born alive following an abortion as a nurse in Illinois, Jill Stanek went public and has become a national figure for the pro-life cause. Jill is an outspoken supporter of the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, legislation that Barack Obama opposed as a State Senator.  Congresswoman Jean Schmidt of Ohio’s 2nd congressional district will also be on board for our stop in Cincinnati. You won’t want to miss their personal messages about how critical it is for women and children that we defeat Barack Obama and his "Extreme Team."

We’ll also be joined by representatives of co-sponsoring organizations including Citizens for Community Values Action, Ohio Right to Life PAC and Concerned Women of Ohio.

The goal of our bus tour is simple: Expose President Obama and Senator Sherrod Brown’s radical pro-abortion agenda. As you know, Barack Obama’s health care law is the largest expansion of abortion on-demand since Roe v. Wade. He has sent hundreds of millions of dollars to Planned Parenthood, America’s abortion giant, and has tried to export his abortion agenda abroad.

As you know, one of Obama’s top pro-abortion allies, Senator Sherrod Brown, has voted lock-step with the abortion lobby since being elected to the U.S. Senate in 2007. With an endorsement from the abortion giant Planned Parenthood and a 100% NARAL voting record, it is clear that Senator Brown is no friend to the women and unborn children of the Buckeye State.

The Susan B. Anthony List is ready to defeat Obama, ObamaCare and Obama’s extreme team – but we need your help to do it!

We sure hope to see you on our tour!  If you don't live near one of the stops on the tour, I hope you will still spread the word to like-minded friends and family.  And stay tuned to www.sbabus.com for videos and pictures from the road!

Together we will save countless unborn children and women from the horrors of abortion.

For Life,

Marjorie Dannenfelser
President, Susan B. Anthony List

Papa John’s Founder To Raise Price Of Pizza Due To ‘Obamacare’

WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — Papa John’s warns it will have to raise the price of its pizzas due to President Obama’s health care law.
John Schnatter, CEO and founder of Papa John’s, said pizza will cost up to 14 cents more when the Affordable Care Act goes into effect in 2014.

“We’re not supportive of Obamacare, like most businesses in our industry. But our business model and unit economics are about as ideal as you can get for a food company to absorb Obamacare,” Schnatter said in a conference call during last week’s shareholder’s meeting, according to Politico.
Schnatter later added: “If Obamacare is in fact not repealed, we will find tactics to shallow out any Obamacare costs and core strategies to pass that cost onto consumers in order to protect our shareholders best interests,”

AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 8, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- Heroic Media aired the life-saving television commercial "Ultimatum" nationwide over 50 times this summer, resulting in more than 2,400 individual responses. Responses include calls and web-based contacts to life-affirming resources, information, and referrals to local pregnancy centers through the Option Line helpline.

Brian Follett, CEO for Heroic Media, remarked, "Women deserve to know about the compassionate help that is available to them, and this campaign accomplished just that. We are thrilled with the 2,400 responses and can't wait to reach even more women with messages of hope in the coming weeks and months."

The ad, which aired on the Black Entertainment Television (BET) network, is a "Call for Help" message which includes a toll-free phone number for the national helpline, Option Line, which connects callers with nearby life-affirming pregnancy centers.

This marked Heroic Media's fourth national television campaign since 2010. In 2011, Heroic Media's television, Internet and outdoor ads generated over 146,000 connections to life-affirming resources and information across the United States.

Richard Viguerie Says Conservative Unease is Growing with the Romney VP List

MANASSAS, Va., Aug. 8, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- Richard A. Viguerie, Chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, issued the following statement regarding possible Republican vice presidential candidates:

"There is growing unease among conservatives that the 'short list' of vice presidential candidates Mitt Romney has under consideration has too many establishment-type Republicans and few, if any, principled small government constitutional conservatives.

"Conservatives want Governor Romney to win, but there are millions of independent and right-of-center voters who are disillusioned with business-as-usual in Washington. To attract their votes, Romney needs a running mate who is a small government constitutional conservative, not an establishment insider.

"As the names of establishment Republican personalities like Ohio Senator Rob Portman, former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, Congressman Paul Ryan, or 'outside the box' choices like General David Petraeus (whose political views are largely unknown) have surfaced, the names of small government constitutional conservatives, such as Florida Senator Marco Rubio, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, and Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker have faded into the background."

Viguerie offered concise critiques of the conservative bona fides of Pawlenty, Portman, Rice, Christie, Ryan, and Petraeus in recent articles on ConservativeHQ.com:

Tim Pawlenty: Prairie State Michael Bloomberg. "Far from being a conservative, when it comes to the nanny state versus individual liberty, Tim Pawlenty is more of a Prairie State Michael Bloomberg than a Reagan Republican."

Has Romney Already Chosen Portman for VP? "He [Portman] may be unknown to many Republicans across the country, but in Washington -- where he worked in both Bush administrations -- he is the ultimate insider. He's also the ultimate Bush Republican."

Rice for VP a Slap in the Face to Conservatives "Given her association with some of the worst neo-con inspired policies of the Bush era, putting Condoleeza Rice at the top of the VP short list is an insult to the conservatives, Tea Partiers, and independents who are looking for a break with the old establishment Republican Washington that Rice represents."

Chris Christie: He's a Brawler, But He is No Conservative "This cycle it is more important than ever that we make sure Republicans nominate a reliable conservative, not just another business-as-usual Republican politician. Chris Christie may be a brawler, but there is no record showing he can be relied upon to put his formidable talents behind many key elements of the conservative agenda."

Paul Ryan for Vice President? Not So Fast. "Many in the conservative movement admire Ryan's gumption in proposing a plan to return the federal government to fiscal sanity. The problem is the Ryan plan uses the Washington, DC version of sanity."

General David Petraeus for VP -- Patriot Yes, Conservative? "General Petraeus is a much-admired man who has ably, and sometimes brilliantly, served our country in the best tradition of the American armed forces. However, if Governor Romney is seriously considering David Petraeus for Vice President, he cannot and must not be given a pass on a thorough examination of Petraeus' commitment to the small government constitutional conservative agenda."

NOTE TO EDITORS: Richard A. Viguerie, Chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, pioneered political direct mail and has been called "one of the creators of the modern conservative movement" (The Nation) and one of the "conservatives of the century" (Washington Times). He is the author of Conservatives Betrayed: How George W. Bush and Other Big Government Republicans Hijacked the Conservative Cause.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Aug. 8, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- Show the "Pastor Rap" video on Sunday. Get the word out on Facebook and Twitter. These are three of the six ways church leaders can encourage members to invite family, friends, neighbors and co-workers to attend church on National Back to Church Sunday on Sept. 16 -- now just six weeks away.
In what is becoming a national movement to help ignite a spiritual awakening in America, more than 14,000 churches are expected to invite people to come back to church on National Back to Church Sunday.
National Back to Church Sunday is based on the simple principle that 82% of people will come to church if invited by a friend, yet only 2% of church members invite their unchurched friends.
"In Houston more than 1.4 million people said they had gone to church, but half of those surveyed report they no longer attend," said Pastor Rickie Bradshaw of the Union Baptist Association in Houston, Tex. "National Back to Church Sunday is providing us a great opportunity to reach almost 750,000 people for Christ. Our churches are gearing up to invite them to come see what the Lord can do in their lives."
Here are six ways churches can encourage their members to get ready for Back to Church Sunday:
  • Churches are praying for their communities, that God will prompt members to invite people to church and that hearts will be moved to accept.

  • Congregations are viewing and sharing the "Pastor Rap - Back to Church Sunday" video. Already viewed more than 64,000 times, the video is part of the Back to Church 2012 Church Kit, available at www.BacktoChurch.com/store. The kit also includes six other promotional videos, more than 60 digital resources, an e-book, e-vites, social media links, sermons and other materials.

  • Church members are using social media content for Facebook and Twitter. Organizers can exchange ideas on the National Back to Church Sunday Facebook page (www.facebook.com/backtochurch), while the event's website (www.BacktoChurch.com) gives individuals an opportunity to extend electronic invitations to friends, relatives and colleagues.

  • Invitations, door hangers and other resources are helping church members reach out to family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. These items can be ordered at www.BacktoChurch.com/store, or churches can order customized promotional items by calling 1-800-991-6011 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting            1-800-991-6011      end_of_the_skype_highlighting.

  • Back to Church Sunday School curriculum is also available for children to help provide a positive experience on Sept. 16 for every age group.

  • Churches are registering their names and locations on the National Back to Church Sunday roster, making it easy for people to find a church to attend on Sept. 16.  Registration is free and simple. A list of participating churches is available at www.BacktoChurch.com/roster.
Churches are encouraged to sign up at www.BacktoChurch.com and begin taking steps now to equip members to invite people to church on Sept. 16.
National Back to Church Sunday (www.BacktoChurch.com) is the single largest annual community outreach in the nation, sharing the simple message and mission of inviting everyone in America Back to Church. The campaign empowers churches and church members with the tools they need to welcome their neighbors, friends and loved ones back to church, while providing the unchurched an easy way to find a welcoming church in their community.
LifeWay Christian Resources, in operation since 1891, is one of the largest Christian resource organizations in the world. LifeWay Research exists for the purpose of equipping church leaders with insight that will lead to greater levels of ministry effectiveness through research-based books and reports based on statistically validated surveys. Christians Declare Repentance for the United States -- No Support from the President

JACKSON, Tenn., Aug. 7, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- America needs to be healed and only God can heal this land in the name of JESUS. According to Prophet Elmore Richmond Jr. the author of 'Ending Terrorism in the United States: God Has Warned U. S.," Christians are crying out throughout the nation for repentance for the United States; however they have not received any support from the President in declaring Repentance for the United States.

In his intense initiative to coordinate a national movement for repentance he discovered that many Christians have posted videos, written articles, and held special prayer services praying for repentance, with many activities scheduled throughout the remainder of the year. A special web site, "Revelation Up to the Minute" www.revelationuptotheminute.org has been created and includes more than 200 articles and videos from Christian leaders throughout the nation and links videos to more than 400 calls to repentance.

Here is our report on the coordinating process:

  1. More than 200 major Christian organizations were contacted.
  2. Pastor Steven Andrew of the USA Christian Ministries has called for 7 months of Repentance from July 2012 until January 2013.
  3. The Family Research Council coordinated a "Call2Fall" Movement for Christians across America to fall on their knees and faces on July 1, 2012. Millions took part.

Other initiatives include:
  1. Project Pray
  2. The Repent America Project
  3. God Save America Project.

Moreover, God has given a vision to Dr. Rick Scarborough to call for 40 days to save America, from September 28 through November 6, 2012.

On June 20, 2012, the Prophet wrote to President Obama asking for his assistance by declaring the month of August as A National Month of Repentance to no avail. Thus only true Christians can call this nation to repentance, Christians have spoken and the call for repentance is now declared.

National repentance affords Christians the opportunity to; understand the Lord's inclusive ways, to search themselves, and the government and the sins of the nation. Christians must pray for the mercy of God; invoke the Holy Spirit to stir the nation, declare Jesus as King and elect leaders who truly fear God. Perform a simple election test. What does the person profess regarding Christ? Are their actions in alignment with the doctrine of Christ? Are they able, just and trustworthy?

Olympian Brittany Viola 'diving for the Lord'

LONDON (BP) -- At 15, American Brittany Viola thought she wasn't good enough to be one of the top divers in the world because she didn't look the part.

The young diver had been given an opportunity to train with Laura Wilkinson, the best diver in Viola's event at the time (and a former Olympic gold medalist).

"As we trained together, I was also surrounded by some of the best divers in the world," Viola, now 25, recalled. "I was only two years into the sport, so I wanted to know how I could become the best. One of the things that I saw was that these girls were in really good shape, and I had a little bit of a different body image than they did."

Viola committed herself to losing weight and modeling what the other divers looked like. That commitment led to an eating disorder that plagued her for years until she became a Christian in college, and God's grace helped her overcome it.

"I've moved a very long way," said Viola, who will compete Wednesday and Thursday (Aug. 8-9) in the 10-meter platform diving competition in London. "It's not something that's completely invisible from my life. It definitely still remains. It's just not even close to the extremes of what it used to be. It's something that the Lord keeps pulling me out of with His truth, and I'm able to move further and further away from it with Him."

Bible survives D-day battle

Klingaman-Bible-open.jpg

“The story really starts with my dad in Normandy,” said Linda Wolfe. “My dad was in the first wave of assault on Omaha Beach on D-Day, in the 16th Army Infantry Regiment. My dad was in the thick of it.”
Wolfe is a Pocatello resident and artist. Her father, Boyd Garth Klingaman, was among the first on Omaha Beach in the pivotal D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944.
This June marks the 68th anniversary of the massive invasion effort, which put Allied forces on the ground in Europe, to begin their push into German territory. The D-Day invasion began at 6:30 a.m. on the beaches of Normandy, in southern France, with over 160,000 Allied troops, landing in five separate sectors; Omaha, Juno, Utah, Sword, and Gold. Omaha Beach will forever be remembered as a killing ground where wave after wave of soldiers fell to entrenched German forces.
Klingaman carried his weapon and a rucksack into battle. In his rucksack was a small Bible. Somewhere along the way, he lost that little Bible on the sands of the beach. Klingaman survived the assault on Omaha Beach, and went on to participate in the further land campaign in the push toward Berlin.
But the little Bible was left behind on Omaha Beach, protected by its zippered binding, apparently in some relatively dry and protected spot where it lay for years.
It was 1998 before the Bible ended up in the hands of local D-Day historian, Henri G. Levaufre, by way of an unidentified beachcomber. Levaufre had made a life-long study of the historic events that took place in the vicinity of his  village of Periers, and had amassed a huge collection of items that had been collected from the beaches, including helmets, guns, boots, and anything else related to the D-Day invasions.

Egyptian Cleric Sallah Sultan: People Worldwide "Thirst for the Blood of the Jews"

Following are excerpts from two Friday sermons delivered by Egyptian cleric Sallah Sultan, the founder of the Ohio-based American Center for Islamic Research. The sermons aired on Al-Aqsa TV on July 27 and August 3, 2012.

Sallah Sultan: I travel all over the world, and I met supporters of Al-Aqsa, of the prisoners, of Jerusalem, and of Palestine – people who thirst for the blood of the Jews, and who are eager for the promised war against the sons of Zion, until Palestine is liberated in its entirety. .

Under the previous [Egyptian] regime over 30,000 Zionists entered Egypt every month, defiling its land. The Egyptian police were forced to protect them, while they were getting drunk and picking fights. .

There was a great scandal, when [alleged Israeli spy] Misrati and some Jews entered Egypt, in order to commit all kinds of crimes here: counterfeit dollars, taking photographs of military bases, girls with AIDS seducing young Egyptians in order to infect them, and the vilest act of all – for the price of one Egyptian pound Misrati and his gang would seduce young Egyptian boys from Cairo, Alexandria and Upper Egypt. They took young children who did not know any better and sodomized them. .

Economic crisis tests Italian family, Church opens doors

ROME (Reuters) - In happier times, ice-cream seller Antonio Siracusa would have considered turning to relatives for help when he lost his job in a cinema in Rome. But these are not happy times. So Siracusa chooses to go to a free canteen run by Christians in the district of Trastevere for dinner, and picks up free food parcels for other meals. "I have siblings, but I don't want anything from them," said Siracusa, as he stood in line at the Sant'Egidio charity's diner, adding that he didn't feel comfortable bothering them in such tough economic times. "The community here are my family." READ MORE
