Time ToTurn The Page:Combat Operations In Iraq Are Over

“We have sent our young men and women to make enormous sacrifices in Iraq, and spent vast resources abroad at a time of tight budgets at home,” Mr. Obama said. “Through this remarkable chapter in the history of the United States and Iraq, we have met our responsibility. Now, it’s time to turn the page.”

Mr. Obama said. “A war to disarm a state became a fight against an insurgency. Terrorism and sectarian warfare threatened to tear Iraq apart. Thousands of Americans gave their lives; tens of thousands have been wounded. Our relations abroad were strained. Our unity at home was tested.”

As I hear Obama say "turn the page" I am reminded of the song with the same name by Bob Seger which I will quote some of the lyrics:

On a long and lonesome highway...

When you're ridin' sixteen hours

And there's nothin' much to do
And you don't feel much like ridin',
You just wish the trip was through...

And you always seem outnumbered,

You don't dare make a stand...

Out there in the spotlight

You're a million miles away
Every ounce of energy
You try to give away
As the sweat pours out your body
Like the music that you play...

As you lie awake in bed

With the echoes from the amplifiers
Ringin' in your head...

Here I am
On the road again
There I am
Up on the stage
Here I go
Playin' star again
There I go
Turn the page

Seger must have understood what trials and adversity was all about from the lyrics found in his song.

Our troops have given there all, and this one thing that remains true; the endurance through adversity our troops has shown. Even though it is time to move on. Some troops remain in Iraq and will hold the course to the end.

Only in the hands of the Iraqis will this war ever truly end. Even after we all pull out and give the complete control over to them, it will then be their final decision on which course they will take.

For now as we "turn the page" let us remind ourselves we are Americans and we do fight for freedom and the truth and happiness of not just for our country but that all mankind know peace, hope, and prosperity in their own country.

This is not a time to fight over should we have been there or not, but a time to help heal these 100,00 troops that are coming home. Some with wounds you can't see.

I pray that the Lord touches all the troops involved and their families and friends. May Jesus cover them all. I ask You Lord Jesus to bring healing to our country and bring us back into Your arms.

Homelessness Up 50% In New York City

Link to original article

MYFOXNY.COM - If you think you've been seeing more people sleep on city streets, statistics back up the perception. The homeless population living on New York City streets has gone up 50 percent in the past year, according to city statistics reported by the HellsKitchenLife.com blog.

The New York City Department of Homeless Services conducts a yearly survey of the streets of the city to count the number of homeless who are not in shelters. The HOPE survey was conducted in January 2010.

The number of homeless in the borough of Manhattan was up 47 percent in the past year, according to the count. The 2010 count had 1,145 people living in the streets. That is up 368 from 2009.

Brooklyn had the biggest increase of any borough. It saw a homeless increase of more than 100 percent in 2010.

More than 1,000 people now live in New York City's subway system -- up 11 percent in the past year.

For example, the DHS says it provided temporary, emergency shelter to 8,230 families with children -- equating to 25,204 adults and children in July. But the agency says shelters have seen fewer families. From October 2009 through June 2010, shelters had 11 percent fewer children, who are now back in homes of their own.

California Law Enforcement Allowed To Secretly Put GPS Device On Your Car

Click to read full story from CNN

(CNN) -- Law enforcement officers may secretly place a GPS device on a person's car without seeking a warrant from a judge, according to a recent federal appeals court ruling in California.

Drug Enforcement Administration agents in Oregon in 2007 surreptitiously attached a GPS to the silver Jeep owned by Juan Pineda-Moreno, whom they suspected of growing marijuana, according to court papers.

When Pineda-Moreno was arrested and charged, one piece of evidence was the GPS data, including the longitude and latitude of where the Jeep was driven, and how long it stayed. Prosecutors asserted the Jeep had been driven several times to remote rural locations where agents discovered marijuana being grown, court documents show.

Pineda-Moreno eventually pleaded guilty to conspiracy to grow marijuana, and is serving a 51-month sentence, according to his lawyer.

But he appealed on the grounds that sneaking onto a person's driveway and secretly tracking their car violates a person's reasonable expectation of privacy.

"They went onto the property several times in the middle of the night without his knowledge and without his permission," said his lawyer, Harrison Latto.

The U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals rejected the appeal twice -- in January of this year by a three-judge panel, and then again by the full court earlier this month. The judges who affirmed Pineda-Moreno's conviction did so without comment.

Latto says the Ninth Circuit decision means law enforcement can place trackers on cars, without seeking a court's permission, in the nine western states the California-based circuit covers.

The ruling likely won't be the end of the matter. A federal appeals court in Washington, D.C., arrived at a different conclusion in similar case, saying officers who attached a GPS to the car of a suspected drug dealer should have sought a warrant.

Experts say the issue could eventually reach the U.S. Supreme Court.

As a person who was beaten, raped and nearly murdered by a man who was a follower of Satanism it is scary to read this article.

Our prayer is that, The Holy Spirit rip the veil off the eyes of the people who are attending this and for those who are thinking of attending. To show them this is pure evil and that nothing good will come of following Satan. And that some way some how this event is stopped before it is too late.

The man who beat, and raped me was my ex-husband. Who was deep into the whole Satanist Occult experience which at the time of our marriage I did not know about. And He knowing I was a Christian tried to convert me after we were married and when I wouldn't, began to abuse me. Only by the Power of God/Jesus Christ am I here to day to be able to share a bit of my story with you. To show that delving into the occult is the most dangerous thing anyone can ever do. It destroys lives and families and tries to take peoples souls.

Vice President Biden Travels To Iraq To Official End The War

Baghdad, Iraq (CNN) -- Vice President Joe Biden arrived in Iraq on Monday to participate in a ceremony marking the end of the U.S. combat mission there, according to the White House.

He was greeted in Baghdad by U.S. Ambassador Jim Jeffrey, outgoing U.S. commander Gen. Ray Odierno and Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari.

While in the country, Biden will meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, President Jalal Talabani, Vice President Tariq al-Hashimi, Vice President Adil Abd al-Mahdi and other political leaders "to discuss the latest developments in Iraq and to urge Iraqi leaders to conclude negotiations on the formation of a new government," the White House said in a written statement.

The United States' official combat mission in Iraq is scheduled to conclude on Tuesday. Roughly 50,000 troops, however, will remain in the country until the end of 2011. Their mission will be to train, assist and advise the Iraqis.

President Obama is scheduled to deliver an Oval Office address on the seven-year Iraqi conflict on Tuesday night.

"As a candidate for this office, I pledged I would end this war. As president, that is what I am doing," Obama said Saturday in his weekly address.

"The bottom line is this: The war is ending. Like any sovereign, independent nation, Iraq is free to chart its own course. And by the end of next year, all of our troops will be home," the president added.

Volcano In Indonesia Erupts

Click to read full story from Fox News

JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) -- A volcano in western Indonesia spewed hot lava and sand high into the sky early Sunday in its first eruption in 400 years.

Government volcanologist Surono, who uses only one name, said Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra province started rumbling a few days ago and the minor morning eruption has mostly stopped.

It sent sand and ash up to a mile (1.5 kilometers) high but lava only moved near its crater. It caused no major damage and "only dust covered plants and trees," he said.

He said Mount Sinabung last erupted in 1600, so observers don't know the volcano's eruption pattern and are monitoring it closely for more activity.

Evacuations on the volcano's slopes started Friday at the first signs of activity. Up to 10,000 people who fled are staying in government buildings, houses of worship and other evacuation centers in two nearby towns.

The government has distributed 7,000 masks to refugees and set up public kitchens so people can cook food, said Priyadi Kardono, spokesman for the National Disaster Management Agency.

Thousands Show Up For The 'Restoring Honor' Rally in Washington, D.C.

The Death of Conservatism is No More!

Last August left little doubt that a conservative revival was underway. Constituents packed town-hall meetings across the country to confront Democratic House members and senators ill-prepared to explain why, in the teeth of a historic economic downturn and nearly 10% employment, President Obama and his party were pressing ahead with costly health-care legislation instead of reining in spending, cutting the deficit and spurring economic growth.

n late October 2008, New Yorker staff writer George Packer reported "the complete collapse of the four-decade project that brought conservatism to power in America." Two weeks later, the day after Mr. Obama's election, Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne proclaimed "the end of a conservative era" that had begun with the rise of Ronald Reagan.

And in February 2009, New York Times Book Review and Week in Review editor Sam Tanenhaus, writing in The New Republic, declared that "movement conservatism is exhausted and quite possibly dead." Mr. Tanenhaus even purported to discern in the new president "the emergence of a president who seems more thoroughly steeped in the principles of Burkean conservatism than any significant thinker or political figure on the right."

A thoughtful conservatism in America—a prerequisite of a sustainable conservatism—must also recognize that the liberty, democracy and free markets that it seeks to conserve have destabilizing effects. For all their blessings, they breed distrust of order, virtue and tradition, all of which must be cultivated if liberty is to be well-used.

To observe this is not, as some clever progressives think, to have discovered a fatal contradiction at the heart of modern conservatism. It is, rather, to begin to recognize the complexity of the conservative task in a free society.

To be sure, the current conservative revival was not in the first instance inspired by reflection on conservative principles.

Disabled Veteran Kicked Out of Grocery Store For Having Service Dog

Click to read original story from NBC 4 Columbus
Joe Lucas is a veteran of the United States Marines Corp. He suffers from a medical disability that causes seizures.

Because Lucas' seizures can happen at any time, he has Harley.

Harley is a certified service dog. He has been trained to warn Lucas before a seizure happens and to help him recover.

Harley is supposed to go everywhere Lucas goes.

There was a problem at the Chillicothe Sack and Save when Lucas tried to do some shopping and was told to leave the grocery. He said he was told to get the dog out of the store.

"I said, 'This is a service dog. It's for disabilities. It's allowed by the Federal Disability Act to be in these kinds of places.' And she said, 'No, they are not,' " Lucas said.

Lucas said he tried to explain but the manager would not listen and eventually called the police.

"It made me feel like a criminal, and then everybody in that store saw me confronted by the police department when I came out of the store. So as far as they know, I am a criminal," explained Lucas.

Lucas explained the situation to officers, showed his identification and was allowed to leave without incident.

Lucas and Harley have gone to other area stores without any problems.

NBC 4 asked the manager at the Sack and Save what its store policy was regarding service animals. The manager said she was not sure and the store still is checking with company headquarters.

As a veteran of the US Coast Guard, and the fact that Chillicothe, OH is home to a VA Medical Facility I personally use. Stories like these are some what common. From the homeless on the streets, to food pantries, asking for help at the Salvation Army, and the many who proudly wear their service hats displaying medals or tours of duty.
It saddens me to see this kind of treatment. This must be stopped. Until more awareness comes and people learn that veterans deserve respect, I will continue to fight. I will not give up, until all veterans not only get their respect, but the help they need to endure on.

God bless all of those who served.

Cholera Epidemic Threatens All Of Nigeria

Click to read full story from Fox News
ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — All of Nigeria is at risk in a cholera epidemic that has killed 352 people in only three-months time, health officials warned Wednesday, as the country's rainy season continues to spread the water-born infection.

The nation's Health Ministry issued a statement saying Nigeria has had more than 6,400 cases of the disease since June. Doctors now have detected it in 12 of Nigeria's 36 states.

"Epidemiological evidence indicates that the entire country is at risk," the statement read.

Cholera is a fast-moving infection that causes diarrhea in victims, leading to severe dehydration and possible death. The infection is highly contagious yet easily preventable with clean water and sanitation.

The health ministry blamed the recent outbreak on heavy seasonal rains spreading the infection across rural communities without access to proper toilet facilities. In many areas, wells remain uncovered, allowing tainted water to flow into the communities' drinking water supplies.

Teacher Assigns Students To Create A Terrorist Attack For Homework

Click to read full story from My Fox NY
Students at an Australian school were asked to plan a terrorist attack "to kill the MOST innocent civilians in order to get your message across" as part of a class assignment, Australian Associated Press (AAP) reported Wednesday.

The society and environment teacher at Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community High School in Western Australia asked Year 10 students -- aged about 16 -- to pretend they were a terrorist planning a chemical or biological attack in Australia.

One parent, who lost a family member among the 202 killed in the 2002 Bali bombings, complained to the local newspaper in the township of 30,000 people that the assignment was "offensive."

Grades were to be allocated based on students' ability to analyze information they had learned on terrorism and chemical and biological warfare and apply it to a real-life scenario.

Terry Marino, the principal of the school -- which is about 370 miles east of Perth -- said the assignment was inappropriate, and that the remorseful teacher was inexperienced and had no intention of offending, Australian public broadcaster ABC reported.

"The teacher, who is relatively inexperienced, made a well-intentioned but misguided attempt to engage the students in an assignment on contemporary conflict and how beliefs and values influence the behaviors and motives of individuals," Martino told the local newspaper.

Martino said he withdrew the assignment as soon as he heard of it.

JMC Ministries Response

To just say this teacher is "inexperienced" is really a lame excuse! Clearly this teacher had his/her own agenda and they were pushing it onto the students in the class.

What if someone had not come forward and brought this to the attention of the principal and the students went forward with this assignment. It said their grades would be based on how well they planned the attack. That is just frightening having children planning out how to kill innocent lives. It is home growing future terrorists, murderers, and serial killers in our opinion. Exposing young children to this kind of horror is only going to de-sensitize the children and they stop showing empathy, compassion and love to their fellow classmate and fellow man.

We are so thankful that parents came forward and made their voices heard and did not keep silent. This kind of behavior from teachers is not just in Australia but all over the world. Those who are suppose to teaching our children the basics of education like reading, writing, and arithmetic are clearly Not always teaching that. They are bringing their own agenda's into the classroom and in turn trying to brainwash and indoctrinate the minds of the worlds future generations.

If parents don't continue to fight for the minds of their children we will soon see a generation of zombies who walk around doing whatever they were brainwashed to do.

Chile': 33 Miners Trapped For Over 17 Days In Collapsed Mine

Click to read full story from CNN

(CNN) -- The 33 miners trapped inside a mine in Chile survived for more than 17 days by sharing small amounts of tuna and mackerel that were in a shelter, along with water, President Sebastian Pinera told CNN en Español on Monday.

"They had very little food," the president said, revealing new details about the conditions affecting the trapped miners. "They told us they ate tuna and mackerel every other day, and that they shared ... a jar of peaches among the 33."

A second probe reached the miners Monday, making a total of two devices that are capable of relaying communications, food and water between the trapped miners and those on the ground.

Using a video camera on one of the probes, Pinera said he saw the miners.

"I saw them jumping like children, with an infinite joy. They moved their arms, they turned on their flashlights," Pinera said.

The area where the miners find themselves is about 50 square meters (538 square feet), Pinera said.

He described the shelter as a type of cavern where they had access to an area called the "workshop," where they found batteries for light and water for consumption.

Pinera estimated the temperatures where the miners are hover between 32-35 degrees Celsius (90-95 degrees Fahrenheit).

Earlier Monday, national Mining Minister Laurence Golborne said that tubes packed with flashlights, water and oxygen would be sent to the trapped miners. It was unclear whether the supplies had been delivered yet.

Officials learned Sunday that the copper and gold miners had survived after an August 5 cave-in trapped them more than 2,300 feet underground.

It could take three months or more to rescue the workers, Pinera said. But the miners' health will take priority over rescue-and-removal efforts, Golborne said at a news conference at the disaster site in northern Chile.

Medical officials were sending water down to the miners and then will determine whether they are healthy enough to tolerate liquid nutrients, said Jorge Diaz, the doctor in charge of the medical aspects of the rescue.

"First, we are going to assure the workers' state of health," Diaz said at the news conference.

Psychological help also will be given to the trapped miners, he said.

Golborne reiterated Monday that those responsible for the cave-in will be prosecuted, a point also made a few minutes later at a separate event by Pinera.

"We will investigate and punish those who are responsible," he said.

Family members had cheered Sunday when Pinera held up a handwritten note pulled from the mine.

Written in Spanish in red ink, it said simply: "We are fine in the shelter, the 33 of us."

The note was tied to a probe authorities had lowered earlier Sunday.

Colorado School Offers Contraception To Students

DENVER - Bruce Randolph School will be the first in Denver Public Schools to offer birth control to students.

Condoms, birth control pills, and emergency contraceptives are now available to any student whose parents signed them up for services at the school based clinic run by Denver Health Medical Center.

Jennifer Gonzalez is part of the parent group that pushed for the contraceptives. She has a son in the high school.

"If the only thing keeping my son from protecting himself is the embarrassment of asking me, or the ability to get to the clinic where its offered for free, then I'd much rather him be able to walk into the school based clinic and ask for it," she said.

Thirteen girls at Bruce Randolph have had babies in the past two years.

The principal hopes access to birth control will bring that number down, and help break the cycle of poverty in the area.

But not everyone agrees. Some people say school is not the place for this, and others believe abstinence should be taught instead.

Bob Enyart with Colorado Right to life expects the number of pregnancies to increase.

"This is a tragedy of parenting and schooling," Enyart said.

There are 14 school based clinics that offer some form of contraception in Colorado, but Bruce Randolph is the first in DPS. The school serves students in 6th-12th grades.

What Ever Happened to Teaching Children Self Control, Abstinence and the dangers of having sex outside of marriage? Now parents and schools just throw pills, condoms and the day after pill at kids when they want to have sex. Instead of educating them and parents taking responsibility for their children and actually raising them with morals, now we just basically say, "go do whatever you want as long you take a pill (which is not even 100% protecting their children from getting pregnant) and condoms (which is not even protecting them 100% from STDS, HIV/AIDS and pregnancy) This is like throwing a Band Aid On a Opened Wound that without the right kind of care and nurturing will never heal and we will continue to have children younger and younger becoming sexually active and getting pregnant.

Church Reopens On 5th Anniversary Of Hurricane Katrina

Click to read full story from WWLTV.com
NEW ORLEANS-- Inside the Historic Second Baptist Church on Marengo Street came the sound of a service five years in the making. On Sunday, worshippers celebrated their return to the church -- five years after Hurricane Katrina.

"The last sermon before Katrina was 'Stormy Weather.' We sustained about 6 to 8 feet of water, easily," said Pastor Robert Jackson. "We've come this far by faith."

It is a faith that church members carried with them across the region and the city, as they searched for temporary places where they could worship. In the past five years, the 160-year-old church held services everywhere but here: from Houston to Baton Rouge; from funeral homes to parking lots.

On Sunday morning, though, a repaired building, with new floors and shiny pews, welcomed those coming in for services.

"Some days you felt like, 'Oh my goodness, will this ever come?' And then now that we're here, it's just a wonderful, wonderful feeling," said longtime church member Charmaine Robertson.

"You know, your church is like your second home. You know how people have vacation homes? In New Orleans, a church is like a second home to you," said Linda Landry. "There's no place like home. I'm like Dorothy, clicking my heels. I'm home! We're so happy."

The happiness is tempered with thoughts of fellow church members, nearly 40 in all, who didn't make it back to see their church reopen.

"We definitely feel their sense of presence," Robertson said. "Today, you can't help but think about them and what it would have meant to them to be a part of this celebration."

Yet, the celebration goes on, as a sign of life-- and a sign that, perhaps, things can get better.

Barack Obama Elementary School Opens In Maryland

The first school in the D.C. area named after the current president opens Monday morning as the school year begins in Prince George's County.

Barack Obama Elementary School opens its doors in Upper Marlboro, Md., for the first time Monday. The school is being touted as being an environmentally friendly "green" school. There have been other schools named after President Obama in the country, but this will be a first in his own backyard in the D.C. region.

That's just one of several new initiatives for Prince George's Public Schools this year. The District also will open an all-male charter school in Upper Marlboro. Called Possibility Prep, the new school will emphasize math, science and engineering. Officials hope that the all-male environment will do away with many distractions and allow students to focus on their studies.

We know that in the past there have been many schools that have opened that were named after a present or former U.S President. Some of these parents who were interviewed expect this to be the greatest school ever opened to improve their childrens' education. When if we look at President Obama's record he really has not improved much since coming into office. But you won't hear him admit that, all you will hear is that "It's Bushes Fault" majority of the time as to why America is so messed up today. Yes Bush did make mistakes when he was in office and caused problems. But That was 2 Years Ago now and Mr. Obama is now in office Bush is no where running anything It's you Mr. Obama. You are the one making the decisions and it is you who need to step up stop blaming others. You said, "the buck stops with me" So stop making excuses for the reason why things aren't going the way you planned

Our question is, that if the children in this school start failing and not getting the good grades while attending this school, Is Obama gonna blame Bush for that as well? I pray and hope that this school will help these children and that they have opportunities to excel academically because without a good education, we set children up for failure when we send them out into the real world unprepared.

One Man Transforming Kenya One Bridge At A Time

Click to read full story from CNN

West Pokot, Kenya (CNN) -- More than 13 years after his parents drowned in a flash flood, David Kakuko is at the Moruny River, building a bridge that might have prevented their deaths.

The hanging footbridge will provide safe passage over the Moruny, a frequently flooded waterway in West Pokot, Kenya.

"Before the bridge, there [were] so many people, so many who lost their lives," said Kakuko, 32. "I know, because I have no parents. I have no parents, because this river took them."

Kakuko is working alongside other local residents and Harmon Parker, a master mason who has been building bridges through Kenya's mountainous terrain since 1997.

Parker, a Lexington, Kentucky, native who came to Kenya in 1989, has seen firsthand how flash floods -- and the threat of predators such as crocodiles and hippos -- can make rivers impassable in isolated communities.

"I've worked all over Kenya," said Parker, 54. "And every community [has] a story of ... loved ones lost."

When Parker arrived in Kenya as a young missionary, he befriended Jay Hindson, a fellow development worker who introduced him to a bridge build in 1996. The experience changed the course of his life.

"It was a plea from the community," Parker recalled. "I saw that building a bridge could change lives and transform communities."

Parker has been building bridges ever since, and in 2003 he founded the nonprofit organization Bridging the Gap. The organization oversees the building of bridges that not only save lives but connect isolated villagers to resources that can improve their way of life.

"When it floods, people really suffer not being able to get to the clinic or the market or to their school," Parker said. "Like every people, they have dreams. They want to prosper."

Since 1997, Parker has helped build 45 bridges in Kenya. He estimates they've affected tens of thousands of lives, but he insists his work is not about the numbers.

"I have built many bridges in very remote areas for the 'few and the needy' that a larger organization may not consider," he said. "Knowing this bridge will probably save at least one life is what makes me tick. ... I build bridges because I want to save lives, lives that I will never know about."

Parker's hanging footbridges are simple in design, with an average length of 120 feet and an average cost of about $6,000. They are built using basic materials and local tools so villagers can maintain them and make repairs when needed.

Controversy Over 10 Commandments Starts Heated Argument In one Illinois City

Click to read full story from KFVS12

MARION, IL (KFVS) - Atheist Rob Sherman says he now has someone in the Marion community whose rights would be violated over the placement of a religious monument in Marion's Tower Square.

On Monday night Sherman warned Marion city leaders during their council meeting that if he found someone in town who wanted to challenge the city over a Ten Commandments monument, he'd take up the fight against the city.

On Wednesday Sherman introduced Robert Donelson, a proclaimed Wiccan, who now wants his religious symbol on Tower Square too.

"If the Ten Commandments go up, then the Wiccan read goes up too," Donelson said.

Sherman backed up Donelson's request with a multiple faceted statement.

"If Mayor Bob Butler wants to allow a Ten Commandments monument here that's fine," said Sherman. "He can do that as long as he allows Mr. Donelson to put up his pentagram or whatever expression of his perspective about the Wiccan religion."

The Marion Mayor says he sees the proposed religious monument from a different perspective.

"We consider the Ten Commandments monument, if it were there, as a recognition of the fundamental premise for the law of the land," said Mayor Bob Butler.

Spike In Unemployment Claims Highest In 9 Months

Layoffs are back, and that's bad news for the fragile economic recovery.

New applications for unemployment benefits hit a nine-month high last week — a spike that suggests private employers may shed jobs this month for the first time this year.

Workers are losing construction jobs in Georgia and manufacturing jobs in Indiana. Some of the layoffs are coming as stimulus money dries up and public works projects come to a halt. Government employees are being let go, too, as states and cities grapple with budget crises.

Without more jobs, consumers will not feel secure enough to spend much money, further slowing the economy. The grim outlook has economists lowering their estimates for growth in the second half of the year. And on Thursday it led to a sell-off on Wall Street led by investors worried that the United States could tumble back into recession.

"Today's news on the economy has been nothing but awful," Paul Ashworth, an economist at Capital Economics, wrote in a note to clients. "The recovery is clearly slowing."

The Labor Department announced Thursday that initial claims for jobless benefits rose by 12,000 last week to 500,000 — the highest level since November and the third straight increase.

As the economy recovered from the worst downturn since the 1930s, jobless claims declined steadily from a peak of 651,000 in March 2009 to a low of 427,000 in July before rising steadily over the past six weeks. In a healthy economy, jobless claims usually drop below 400,000.

"This is obviously a disappointing number that shows ongoing weakness in the job market," said Robert Dye, senior economist at the PNC Financial Services Group.

Dye said claims showed a similar pattern in the last two recoveries, but eventually began to fall again. The current elevated level of claims is a sign that employers are reluctant to hire until the rebound is well under way. That's what happened after the 1991 and 2001 recessions, which were dubbed "jobless recoveries."

Economists caution that more than 350,000 temporary census jobs ended in recent months, and those workers could be applying for benefits. Congress also recently restored an extended unemployment benefits program, which can sometimes spike claims.

The jobless report and a separate report showing that manufacturing activity in the mid-Atlantic declined in August sent stock markets tumbling. The Dow Jones industrial average closed down 144 points for the day. Interest rates dropped sharply as investors flocked to the safety of Treasury bonds.

A rush to move money into Treasurys in recent months has sent mortgage rates to the lowest level in decades. They dipped for the eighth time in nine weeks.

Also Thursday, the Congressional Budget Office said the deficit is on pace to exceed $1.3 trillion for the budget year that ends in September. That would be the second-largest ever, just below the record of more than $1.4 trillion in the last fiscal year.

Partially fueling the deficit was hundreds of billions of dollars in stimulus spending intended to help lift the country out of recession. But many of the programs are now ending, taking jobs with them.

Ken Simonson, chief economist at the Associated General Contractors of America, said highway contractors began working on stimulus projects as much as a year ago, "and now that pipeline is empty."

Work on commercial projects such as office buildings, malls and hotels is "dead, dead, dead," he added.

Construction firms are letting go of more workers as the housing sector slumps and federal stimulus spending on public works projects winds down. Construction-related layoffs have been particularly heavy in recent weeks in Georgia, Pennsylvania and North Carolina.

In Washington, Republicans have made Democrats' handling of the economy the No. 1 campaign issue heading into the midterm congressional elections. President Barack Obama cited the jump in jobless claims to call attention to Republicans who are opposing his proposal to help small businesses.

That bill would provide up to $30 billion in additional lending to small businesses and about $12 billion in tax breaks to encourage hiring. But Republicans and some Democrats are balking at more government spending because of the effect on the deficit.

Watch Your Money North Korea Sending Fake $100 Dollar Bills To U.S

Click to read full story from World Net Daily

A New Jersey man was shocked when police informed him that the $100 bill he withdrew from his bank to pay taxes earlier this month was a masterfully made counterfeit.

What the man may not have realized is that the State Department has confirmed a rash of these almost undetectable counterfeits, called "super-notes," have been flooding the U.S. from North Korea in a form of monetary sabotage one former FBI agent warns could constitute an act of war.

The existence of the supernotes was exposed in 2008, when several Chinese men were convicted of smuggling tens of millions of dollars worth of the counterfeit money into the U.S.

Originally, the supernotes fooled even state currency experts.

"It wasn't until they took [a] bill back to Washington, D.C., and they examined it in the labs of the Secret Service … that they determined that in fact it was a supernote," author and former FBI agent Bob Hamer explained to the Christian Broadcasting Network. "It's a near-perfect replica of our $100 bill."

But authorities also discovered that the Chinese men hadn't actually produced the counterfeits; they were only the vehicle for smuggling the currency into the U.S.

Last month, the International Business Times reports, State Department spokesman Philip Crowley confirmed U.S. officials now have "no doubt" that North Korea is behind the counterfeit currency ring.

And that, Hamer told CBN News, could be considered an act of war.

Obama Lies About Stimulus Funds Used In Ohio Project During Visit This Week

Written By Miranda Caverley
Is it a surprise that Obama has been caught in another lie?

This week the President visited a couples home in Clintonville Ohio Near Columbus to talk about how the stimulus money is helping put Ohioans back to work. It was an all day event as the President visited a local Ohio architect and his wife as the Press swarmed taking photos and making posts on Facebook every few seconds as to what President Obama was doing and where he was going.

The only problem with this is there is no stimulus money being used for the project that this architect is working on. OOPS I guess he forgot to mention that while getting photo ops and sipping drinks.

As our President continues to come out with lie after lie after lie. We have to wonder does he not care anymore that the American people are on to his little game? I don't think he does, to me this just shows that he is all about publicity and fame rather than telling the truth and helping the American people. So after finding this out I wonder if the architect and his wife will be so hospitable the next time Obama come knocking at their door?

This is what the Ohio (AP) posted just today
COLUMBUS (AP) -- A city official in Ohio says President Barack Obama misspoke this week when he cited a local project as a stimulus success.
At the home of a Columbus architect, Obama said his administration's economic program had helped his host because the man was working on a new police station funded in part with stimulus dollars.

But Columbus city finance director Paul Rakosky says the project is actually converting a vacant building into a new police crime lab, and he says no stimulus money is involved. Rakosky, who's a Democrat, says the funding originated in Congress.

Asked for a comment, a White House spokesman said one of the key points of the president's trip was to highlight job creation by small businesses, like architect

Obama Visits Ohio for the 9th Time!

"We're on the right track. The economy is getting stronger, but it suffered a really big trauma," Obama said. "A lot of it is sort of like recovering from an illness; you get a little bit stronger each day and you take a few more steps each day."

U.S. House Republican Leader John Boehner of Southwest Ohio summed it up in a statement as "more waste, more debt, and fewer jobs."

Obama said Ohio workers are well-positioned to snag clean energy manufacturing jobs such as those making solar panels, batteries for electric cars and wind turbines. "Those are potentially thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of manufacturing jobs, and the Midwest is really poised to get a lot of those jobs."

JMC MINISTRIES RESPONSE:

This is the 9th time Obama has been here in Ohio. Things are still the same. Of course it could be worse. But this trip like the others are about "promoting" the Democrats and the Stimulus Bill.

With Ohio having over a 10% Unemployment, and as jobs are being moved overseas or out of state, I don't see this getting better anytime soon.

These so called "green jobs" aren't here yet either! It will take companies buying land and building factories for solar/wind electrical equipment, and this state already has "green jobs" in the form of the Nuclear plants, which is still fighting for money!

Time is of the essence, the people are hurting and don't need more talk but action!

As the politics of America continue to "rally" for more money and less action it only shows they are in for it themselves.

This money is needed to create these jobs. But no matter how hard a government tries to work towards "job creation", it will never happen without the public feeling things are really getting better. Quit talking and show the American people integrity with action!

“Vote of No Confidence” in ICE Leadership From Border Agents

Link to original article

“VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE IN ICE DIRECTOR JOHN MORTON AND ODPP ASSISTANT DIRECTOR PHYLLIS COVEN” on June 11, 2010. The letter, acquired through sources, provides a litany of examples of how ICE’s mission is being skewed towards supporting an unflinching goal of amnesty by refusing to allow agents to do their job; allowing criminal aliens to roam free; depleting resources for key enforcement initiatives that preceded this administration; and misrepresenting facts and programs, demeaning the extent of the criminal alien problem and geared to support amnesty.

The letter, authored by ICE Union President Chris Crane, begins as follows, noting that all ICE union representatives have signed on to a unanimous “Vote of No Confidence” in ICE leadership:

On June 11, 2010, the National Immigration and Customs Enforcement Council and its constituent local representatives from around the nation, acting on behalf of approximately 7,000 ICE officers and employees from the ICE Office of Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), cast a unanimous “Vote of No Confidence” in the Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), John Morton, and the Assistant Director of the ICE Office of Detention Policy and Planning, (ODPP), Phyllis Coven.

Providing numerous facts the media and public have not been privy to, the letter relates ICE leadership dishonesty and failure to abide by their oath to uphold the law. The letter also outlines the importance of local law enforcement referrals to ICE, and the striking symbiotic relationship between local enforcement and ICE on immigration matters. Exemplary are these two bullets:

• While ICE reports internally that more than 90 percent of ICE detainees are first encountered in jails after they are arrested by local police for criminal charges, ICE senior leadership misrepresents this information publicly in order to portray ICE detainees as being non-criminal in nature to support the Administration’s position on amnesty and relaxed security at ICE detention facilities.

• The majority of ICE ERO Officers are prohibited from making street arrests or enforcing United States immigration laws outside of the institutional (jail) setting. This has effectively created “amnesty through policy” for anyone illegally in the United States who has not been arrested by another agency for a criminal violation.

In one uncharacteristic note of sarcasm, the outcome of the Obama Administration new detention policy is described as follows, including dance lessons and hanging plants for criminal aliens in detention facilities:

• ICE Detention Reforms have transformed into a detention system aimed at providing resort like living conditions to criminal aliens. Senior ICE leadership excluded ICE officers and field managers (the technical experts on ICE detention) from the development of these reforms, and instead solicited recommendations from special interest groups. The lack of technical expertise and field expertise has resulted in a priority of providing bingo nights, dance lessons and hanging plants to criminals, instead of addressing safe and responsible detention reforms for non-criminal individuals and families. Unlike any other agency in the nation, ICE officers will be prevented from searching detainees housed in ICE facilities allowing weapons, drugs and other contraband into detention centers putting detainees, ICE officers and contract guards at risk.

Ohio Former Pastor Pleads GUILTY to Stealing From Church!

Link to original article-Former pastor pleads guilty to stealing from church

Former Greenfield pastor James Blaine may face up to 6 years in prison and $250,000 in restitution payments after he pleaded guilty to embezzling thousands from his church.

Blaine, 61, was indicted on 17 counts related to allegations that he stole more than $100,000 from the Good Shepherd Church near Greenfield.

He pleaded guilty Wednesday in Highland County Common Pleas Court to two counts: one count of forgery, a fifth-degree felony, and one count of aggravated theft, a third-degree felony.

The maximum sentence for the first count is 12 months and the maximum sentence for the second count is 5 years.

The state dropped the remaining 15 counts and recommended a prison sentence of three years and eight months. The state also said they would not oppose judicial release.

"The church had a board meeting Monday, and they called and said, 'Go ahead and try to work it out,'" Highland County Prosecutor Jim Grandey said Wednesday. "We are pleased with the result of this case. (Blaine) had to say, 'Yes, I stole from the church.' He never wanted to admit that, and it was important for us to get that out of his mouth that he's guilty. I think that's important for the church."

Grandey said that restitution payments will be ordered following an upcoming restitution hearing. He estimated the state would recommend Blaine be ordered to pay between $200,000 and $250,000 in restitution.

Blaine's indictment was the result of a seven-month investigation by Highland County Sheriff's Office detectives into allegations that Blaine stole money from the church by forging names and documents that were then submitted to financial institutions, where Blaine obtained money in the name of the church for his personal use, Highland County Sheriff Ron Ward said.

The sheriff said the alleged incidents took place from 2004 to 2009.

Ward told The Times-Gazette he was glad that a case involving a "long and complex investigation" had come to a close.

"This investigation took a long time to complete. There was a voluminous amount of documents to go through. It was a very long and complex investigation," he said. "We are satisfied the case came to a resolution with the count of theft and the count of forgery... it's not over. We'll put our trust in the judge to order the appropriate sentence for Mr. Blaine."

BREAKING NEWS-Same Sex Marriages On Hold!

Link to original article-Court halts Calif gay marriages pending appeal

SAN FRANCISCO – Same-sex weddings in California are on hold indefinitely after a federal appeals court blocked the unions Monday while it considers the constitutionality of the state's gay marriage ban.

The decision, issued by a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, trumps a lower court judge's order that would have allowed county clerks to begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples on Wednesday.

Chief U.S. District Court Judge Vaughn Walker decided last week to allow gay marriages to go forward after ruling that the ban, known as Proposition 8, violated equal protection and due process rights of gays and lesbians guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution.

The Proposition 8 legal team quickly appealed Walker's ruling in a case that many believe will end up before the Supreme Court.

Tariq Aziz-Former Saddam Hussein's Deputy Wants US To Stay in Iraq & Wishes He Was Martyred!

Link to Original Article: Saddam Hussein deputy Tariq Aziz calls for US forces to stay in Iraq

"When the decision was taken, I said to him, this is going to lead to war with the US and it is not in our interests to wage war against the US. But the decision was taken. I was the foreign minister of the country and I had to defend the country and do everything possible to explain our position. I stayed on the side of right."

"Through an intermediary, I contacted the Americans. If I could return to that time, I wish I would be martyred. But the war was here and Baghdad had been occupied. I am loyal to my family and I made a major decision. I told the Americans that if they took my family to Amman they could take me to prison. My family left on an American plane. And I went to prison on a Thursday."

"For 30 years Saddam built Iraq and now it is destroyed. There are more sick than before, more hungry. The people don't have services. People are being killed every day in the tens, if not hundreds. "I was encouraged when [Obama] was elected president, because I thought he was going to correct some of the mistakes of Bush. But Obama is a hypocrite. He is leaving Iraq to the wolves."

"I asked Saddam Hussein not to invade Kuwait," he said. "But I had to support the decision of the majority. When the decision was taken, I said to him this is going to lead to war with the US, and it is not in our interests to wage war against the US."

14-Year-Old Girl Goes To Jail For Being Raped!

14-year-old girl jailed for consensual sex

Abu Dhabi: A 14-year-old girl who initially claimed she was raped by a bus driver was yesterday sentenced to six months in prison followed by deportation.

The case was treated as an instance of consensual sex between her and the driver by the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court of First Instance. The driver received a sentence of one year imprisonment followed by deportation.

Court papers showed that the girl is of Brazilian origin, while her alleged assailant is a 25-year-old Pakistani. The incident reportedly took place in an undisclosed apartment on April 3.

Although the girl's father had initially filed rape charges against the driver, court investigators found that she had been in touch with her assailant before the incident.

Intimate

"She had been sending very intimate pictures of herself to the accused, some of which included nude pictures, … and also used to send him text messages," the presiding judge, Chief Justice Saeed Abdul Bashir, head of the criminal justice section at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, told Gulf News.

"In what appeared to be a coordinated effort, security forces stopped the Christians’ bus in Mashhad, the capital of Razavi Khorasan, Iran. Authorities boarded the bus, arrested 15 believers and took them to the Ministry of Information’s central detention center. According to FCNN, the believers were subjected to harsh and inhumane interrogations. After being held for a week, 13 of the Christians were conditionally released after signing promissory notes and posting bail. At last report, the two remaining detainees, 48-year-old Reza and 23-year-old Ehsan Behrooz, remained in detention because they refused to sign any forms or post bail."

ADF attorneys secure victory for religious expression in iconic American parks, monuments
Friday, August 06, 2010

“The First Amendment is the only permit a Christian or any American needs to engage in free speech on public property. The court was right to reach this conclusion,” said ADF Senior Counsel Nate Kellum. “Certainly, it made no sense to enforce unconstitutional regulations that deny free speech at the foot of Mount Rushmore--a place where four men who championed America’s freedoms are immortalized in stone.”

“It is unlawful to engage in expressive activities within any of this country’s 391 national parks unless a park official first issues a permit authorizing the activity. Michael Boardley argues this licensing scheme is overbroad and therefore unconstitutional on its face. We agree,” states the opinion from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. “Requiring individuals and small groups to obtain permits before engaging in expressive activities within designated ‘free speech areas’ (and other public forums within national parks) violates the First Amendment…. We have no choice but to hold the regulations unconstitutional in their entirety.”

“This important decision means that Mr. Boardley and all Americans who visit our beautiful national parks and monuments will be able to exercise their free speech and religious expression rights without further unconstitutional barriers,” said ADF Legal Counsel Heather Gebelin Hacker.

ADF is a legal alliance of Christian attorneys and like-minded organizations defending the right of people to freely live out their faith. Launched in 1994, ADF employs a unique combination of strategy, training, funding, and litigation to protect and preserve religious liberty, the sanctity of life, marriage, and the family.

Rifqua Bary Turns 18 Let The Bells Of Freedom Ring

Written By Miranda Caverley

Yesterday Rifqua Bary Turned 18. This young Ohio Girl in the past year has had the fight of her life. Born into a Muslim family Rifqua converted to Christianity and when her parents found out, Rifqua claims her father threatened to kill her. Because in the Islam religion if anyone converts to another religion they must be put to death. So Rifqua Fled Ohio with the help of some Christians to Florida where she was living with a Christian Family.

When her family found out that she had fled to Florida A Media Frenzy ensued. This young girl was plastered all over TV News Stations Across the Country. Along with this Rifqua was forced to return to Ohio and be placed into the custody of Franklin County Ohio Children Services. During the months Rifqua was in the custody of Children Services. Rifqua was not allowed to have contact with any one and was not even allowed on the internet. There was a very high profiled Court hearing whether or not Rifqua's parents really threatened to kill their daughter just because she converted to Christianity. The Ohio court tried to get Rifqua and her family to reconcile their differences but in the end the court found that is was in the best interest that Rifqua she stay in the custody of Children Services until her 18 birthday.

During the months of living in the custody of Children Services Rifqua found out she had cancer. She had surgeries and went through chemotherapy treatment. In the end Rifqua was healed from the cancer and it is now in remission. This may have been the end of Rifqua's fight with cancer but another battle was about to begin.

In the past few months it was found that Rifqua is not a legal U.S Citizen. Her parents brought her here when she was a baby when they immigrated from Sri Lanka. When this was found out, it was being said that Rifqua the day she turned 18 would be kicked out of the United States and sent back to Sri Lanka. However, many people have stepped up in protest against this because it is said that if Rifqua is Sent to Sri Lanka She will be murdered in an Honor Killing by Muslims for converting to Christianity. So now proceedings are under way to allow Rifqua to stay in the United States and become a legal Citizen.

When I found out yesterday was Rifqua's 18th Birthday. I broke down into tears and just thanked God that this fight is nearly over for her. I know and everyone who is educated in the Islam Religion knows that what Rifqua was claiming about her going to be killed for converting to Christianity is TRUE. If this young girl did not run away from her family and the Muslim community she would have been killed. And we here in Ohio would have heard another murder has happened in the city of Columbus a senseless act of violence another young life lost. But thank God that is not the headline I heard yesterday! I heard "Rifqua Bary is FREE! Free to practice Christianity"

We at JMC Ministries has been following Rifqua's story since it first began. Writing about it on our Eternal Flame News and Talking about it on our JMC LIVE Show. Our prayer for Rifqua is that she be allowed to stay in the U.S and become a citizen. To share her testimony to all the world and that many may come to have a relationship with Jesus through Rifqua's life. And that Rifqua be able to live a life of peace and safety here in the U.S where we have Freedom of Religion and can practice her faith openly and freely without worry of being killed.

God Bless you Rifqua and God Speed on your Journey in life with Christ.

60,000 Babies Born To Illegal Immigrants In Texas Every Year

Click to read full story from CNN

From CNN's Jack Cafferty:

As the debate over illegal immigration – and now over the 14th amendment – heats up, consider this:

In Texas alone, there are more than 60,000 babies born to non-citizens every year. These babies automatically become U.S. citizens.

The Dallas Morning News reports that last year these births represented almost 16% of the total births statewide. And, that from 2001 to 2009, there were more than 542,000 births to illegal immigrant women.

Let me repeat, all these babies automatically become U.S. citizens... and we're just talking about Texas here.

This is why some Republicans want to consider changing the Constitution's guarantee of citizenship for anyone born in the United States.

House Minority Leader John Boehner says many illegal immigrants come here just so their children can become U.S. citizens. Boehner points to parts of our country where schools and hospitals are being overrun by illegal aliens.

Other Republicans say if both parents are here illegally, why should there be a reward for that behavior? And they have a point.

But opponents worry about the children, saying they didn't break any laws, yet would have no rights and nowhere to go.

Others claim the whole issue isn't about babies, but rather about politics and using immigration as a wedge issue headed into the midterm elections.

The 14th amendment became law in 1868. It was meant as a way to block states that prevented former slaves from becoming citizens.

Pregnant Widow Accused Of Adultry Is Executed By Taliban

click to read original story from CNN

Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) -- The Taliban has executed a pregnant widow accused of adultery in western Afghanistan, provincial and district officials said Monday.

The 47-year-old woman, Sanam Gul, also known as Sanam Bibi, was killed in Badghis province Saturday morning, said Ashrafuddin Majidi, the provincial governor's spokesman.

The district governor of Qades, Hashim Habibi, confirmed the execution. He said the woman was accused of adultery that left her pregnant. The Taliban shadow district governor, Mullah Abdul Hakim, and his judge ordered the woman to be executed, he said.

Mohammad Yousuf, a Taliban commander, carried out the execution, shooting the woman in her head, Habibi said.

The International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan condemned the killing. "This tragic gruesome brutality is an example of Taliban justice," said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres, director of the ISAF Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center. "This is not what the people of Afghanistan want -- they want peace and freedom and that's what we're going to help provide."

The statement from the ISAF cited reports that the widow was whipped 200 times before she was shot.

Pastor Protests Schools Demon Mascot and Is Arressted

click to read full story from 13WMAZ

A pastor arrested Monday for protesting Warner Robins High School's "Demon" nickname and mascot says he was just standing up for Jesus -- and he'd do it again.

Pastor Donald Crosby said the school's demon logo just encourages children to evil.

"I don't scare easily. Lock me up as many times as you have to lock me up. Even kill me if you have to. I'm standing up for Jesus."

He criticized other Christians who, he says, are singing in church while their children are being taught to praise demons.

"Demons aren't lazy, Christians are," he said.

He said the city of Warner Robins must repent for its demon-praising.

Crosby is pastor of Kingdom Builders Church of Jesus Christ in Macon.

Warner Robins police spokeswoman Tabitha Pugh says the 36-year-old Crosby was arrested after police told him he didn't have a picketing permit, as required by the city.

Crosby and the group protested outside the school on the opening day of classes.

Last month, Crosby started a petition to remove the demon as Warner Robins High School's mascot.

But others started a petition in favor of keeping the demon.

School officials say they have no plans to change the name.

Warner Robins police say they tried to work with the pastor to make the protest legal.

Pugh said, "Our officers asked him several times, it wasn't just once, several times to leave the property and go and obtain a permit, to say they can legally and lawfully protest."

She says officers asked Crosby and the group to leave. Crosby refused and was arrested, she says. Others in the group dropped the protest.

Pugh says Crosby is charged with picketing without a permit and disorderly conduct for not leaving when asked. Crosby was released from the Houston County jail on bond.

Greg Green says he was dropping his daughter off for the first day of classes at Rumble Academy around 7:10 a.m. when he saw about 30 protesters outside the front of the high school.

Green says the group wasn't blocking the school entrance or the flow of traffic.

Green says some of the signs said things like, "Demons don't like me, because I'm Christian", and "Home games will have to be played in hell."

The pastor says a 15-year-old, who he has legal custody of, is zoned for the school, and he doesn't want him exposed to the name's evil connotations.
