Nobel Peace Prize Committee Asked To Strip Obama Of Peace Prize

The Bolivian President and a Russian political leader have launched a campaign to revoke Obama's honour after the US attacked Libya.

Liberal Democratic Party of Russia leader and Vice-Chairman of the State Duma Vladimir Zhirinovsky released a statement today calling for the Nobel Prize Committee to take back the honour bestowed on US President Barack Obama in 2009.

Zhirinovsky said the attacks were "another outrageous act of aggression by NATO forces and, in particular, the United States," and that the attacks demonstrated a "colonial policy" with "one goal: to establish control over Libyan oil and the Libyan regime."

He said the prize was now hypocritical as a result. Bolivian President Evo Morales echoed the call: "How is it possible that a Nobel Peace Prize winner leads a gang to attack and invade? This is not a defence of human rights or self-determination." Morales won the Gaddafi International Prize for Human Rights in 2006.

He is amongst a number of left-leaning Latin American leaders who have denounced the attacks against Libya. Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, Rafael Correa of Ecuador, Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua and Cristina Ferdinez of Argentina have all criticised western media coverage of the Libyan crisis. Morales and Chavez repeated calls for peace talks with Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples." The Committee praised the "change in the international climate" affected by Obama's presidency.

In his Nobel Lecture, he discussed the "hard truth" of the inevitability of war, saying: "There will be times when nations — acting individually or in concert — will find the use of force not only necessary but morally justified."

A message has been widely retweeted on Twitter today: "Obama has now fired more cruise missiles than all other Nobel Peace prize winners combined."

4th Narnia Movie To Be Made Will Be "Magicians Nephew"

Walden Media has confirmed to The Christian Post that the Narnia 4 movie will be "The Magician's Nephew," not "The Silver Chair" as originally speculated by many fans.

"We are starting to talk to Fox and talk to the C.S. Lewis estate now about the Magician's Nephew being our next film," said Michael Flaherty, co-founder and president of Walden Media, during a recent interview with The Christian Post.

"If we can all agree to move forward, then what we would do is find someone to write the script. So, it could still be a couple of years."

The Magician's Nephew is the sixth book in the seven-title children's book series by C.S. Lewis. The story, a prequel to the popular The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe book, is about the creation of the magical land of Narnia and how evil entered into the newly formed land. The tale also follows Professor Kirke from the "Wardrobe" as a young boy (Digory) and his introduction to Narnia through a magical ring given to him by his evil Uncle Andrew, a magician.

Anti Pornography Group Opposes Establishment Of .XXX Domains

Washington, DC (March 17, 2011) –The War on Illegal Pornography announced today its strong opposition to the creation of .xxx domain, which ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) will determine by vote on Friday, March 18.

“The establishment of a .xxx domain would increase, not decrease the spread of pornography on the Internet, causing even more harm to children, families and communities, and make ICANN complicit in that harm,” said Patrick Trueman, CEO of Morality in Media and former chief of the U.S. Department of Justice Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Criminal Division.

“There is no evidence that the public wants or needs this domain. In fact, each time this idea has been proposed it has been overwhelmingly opposed by the public and governments throughout the world,” said Trueman.

Hardcore pornography (or “obscene material” as it is called in the U.S. law) on the Internet is already a violation of U.S. law. However, the U.S. Department of Justice under U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder is not enforcing the law. Trueman said those who argue that the Internet porn problem can be solved by establishing a new .xxx domain and then passing a federal law requiring pornographers to use that domain are mistaken.

“It would not only be unconstitutional to force pornography from the .com domain, but, if the Department of Justice is not prosecuting Internet porn companies now for violating U.S. obscenity laws, it is not going to prosecute such companies for merely locating in the wrong address.”

Pornography addiction is rampant, leading to grave social costs that are documented at www.pornharms.com. “A more appropriate goal should be to stop the distribution of this destructive material by prosecuting those responsible for it, not protect pornography through the use of an .xxx domain, “ said Trueman. “We take this opportunity to urge U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to enforce federal obscenity laws.”

Christians Speak Out About Persecution From Muslims In The Middle East

American Christians are beginning to speak out against mistreatment of their Middle East brethren by the Muslim majority with whom they live.

The “Chicago Initiative” – a one-day conference held March 12 near Chicago – was focused on raising media awareness of the issue.

More than a dozen organizations, including churches and Middle Eastern Christian groups in the U.S., were behind the event.

Keynote speaker Walid Phares, author of “The Coming Revolution: Struggle for Freedom in the Middle East,” told attendees that hostility toward Christians is “an undeniable fact of life in Muslim countries.”

Governments in the Middle East fail to protect the lives of indigenous Christians in the region, he said, a problem ignored in the West due to a lack of media coverage.

“I would like to see two hours on C-Span dedicated to the plight of Coptic Christians in Egypt,” he said.

Violence perpetrated against Copts by Egypt's Muslim majority has been an issue for years. Protesters in the recent upheaval that toppled the 31-year regime of former President Hosni Mubarak claimed they were opposed to discrimination against Christians.

Other speakers described how Christians in Iraq, Iran and Egypt have been attacked by their neighbors and their governments.

Shari'a law is enshrined in the constitutions of Iraq and Egypt, attendees were told. Juliana Taimoorazy, director of the Chicago-based Iraqi Christian Relief Council, described the “horrific” attacks against Christians in Iraq.

Death Toll Rises to 18,000 In Aftermath Of Japan Disaster

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Monday, March 21, 2011 at 12:58 a.m.

FUKUSHIMA, Japan — The toll of Japan's triple disaster came into clearer focus today after police estimates showed more than 18,000 people died, the World Bank said rebuilding may cost $235 billion and more cases of radiation-tainted vegetables and tap water turned up.

Japanese officials reported progress over the weekend in their battle to gain control over a nuclear complex that began leaking radiation after suffering quake and tsunami damage, though the crisis was far from over, with a dangerous new surge in pressure reported in one of the plant's six reactors.

The announcement by Japan's Health Ministry late Sunday that tests had detected excess amounts of radioactive elements on canola and chrysanthemum greens marked a low moment in a day that had been peppered with bits of positive news: First, a teenager and his grandmother were found alive nine days after being trapped in their earthquake-shattered home. Then, the operator of the overheated nuclear plant said two of the six reactor units were safely cooled down.

"We consider that now we have come to a situation where we are very close to getting the situation under control," Deputy Cabinet Secretary Tetsuro Fukuyama said.

Still, serious problems remained at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear complex. Pressure unexpectedly rose in a third unit's reactor, meaning plant operators may need to deliberately release radioactive steam. That has only added to public anxiety over radiation that began leaking from the plant after a monstrous earthquake and tsunami devastated northeastern Japan on March 11 and left the plant unstable. As day broke today, Japan's military resumed dousing of the complex's troubled Unit 4.

Pastor Accused Of Refusing Communion To Church Members Who Wouldn't Give Tax Refund

Pastor Calls Flock Devils, Demons: MyFoxHOUSTON.com

Published : Tuesday, 15 Mar 2011, 6:39 PM CDT
HOUSTON - Members of the small congregation at Houston Unity Baptist Church said when they refused to give the pastor their tax refunds; he refused to give them their Communion.

Some members of the church spoke with FOX 26 anonymously.

"He said for all those who are getting a tax refund, ‘How many are you are going to give it to the church’?" James said.

Pastor John Goodman said while he refused Communion, it wasn't because his members didn't donate their tax refunds to the church. It’s because they've failed to step up and do what's needed to keep the church afloat.

"I asked if there were any other members, which I know it is, that got income tax money. I ask if they would like to contribute it over here to the new parking lot."

When asked if he withheld Communion, Pastor Goodman said absolutely but it wasn’t because of the tax refund issue. He said it was because of internal issues in the church he refused to disclose.

Megadeth Singer Says Witchcraft and Black Magic Ruined His Life

Megadeth rocker Dave Mustaine refuses to play heavy rock anthem The Conjuring live - because the track is laden with black magic imagery and occult spells.

The singer became fascinated in witchcraft as a teen and he's convinced spells he cast have come back to haunt him.

Now a strict Christian, he's keen to distance himself from his dark past - and refuses to play his song "The Conjuring" from 1986 album Peace Sells... but Who's Buying on tour - because the lyrics about black magic still affect him.

He tells Total Guitar magazine, "Performance wise, The Conjuring is one of the heaviest songs on the record, but unfortunately it's got black magic in it and I promised that I wouldn't play it any more, because there's a lot of instructions for hexes in that song."

"Although it seems kinda corny, anybody who's a Wiccan (witch) or a warlock or anything like that will know that all of that stuff is instrumental.

"When I got into black magic I put a couple of spells on people when I was a teenager and it haunted me forever, and I've had so much torment. People say, '(expletive), Dave never gets a break, he's had such a hard life,' and I just think, 'No, Dave didn't - he got into black magic and it ruined his life.'

California School Changes Policy After Trying To Ban A Student From Singing A Christian Song InTalent Show

Published March 21, 2011| FoxNews.com

The Los Angeles Unified School District has changed course on a policy that initially prevented a fifth-grader from performing to a Christian song in a talent show.

The school district allowed the student to perform in the Feb. 4 show after facing a lawsuit filed by the boy's parents, but the suit moved forward in an effort to make the district change its policy.

The lawsuit claimed Superior Street Elementary School violated the boy’s First Amendment rights by telling him he couldn't dance to his favorite song "We Shine" because of its references to Jesus, MyFoxLA reported. It said that after the boy's audition the school's principal, Jerilyn Shubert, told his mother the song was "offensive" and a violation of the "separation of church and state" and asked why he couldn't "pick a song that does not say Jesus so many times?"

Shubert was speaking on behalf of the school’s PTA in making those comments, according to Robert Alaniz, director of communications for the school district. The PTA sponsored the talent show and felt the song might be inappropriate, Alaniz told FoxNews.com.

The school district has now agreed to a settlement, revising its District Bulletin to read: “Student speakers at student assemblies and extracurricular activities such as sporting events or talent shows may not be selected on a basis that either favors or disfavors religious speech.”

The Alliance Defense Fund, a Christian legal alliance that brought the case on behalf of the student, has filed a voluntary dismissal of the lawsuit in light of the policy change.

“Christian students shouldn’t be censored at public schools just because district officials consider religious speech to be offensive,” said ADF Senior Counsel David Cortman in a press release.

“The school district is doing the right thing by changing its policy to protect students’ constitutionally protected rights so that censorship of religious speech no longer occurs during student activities.”

Pole Dancing For Jesus, Ok Or Not Ok

'Pole dancing for Jesus' a big hit in Texas town: MyFoxBOSTON.com

Published : Tuesday, 22 Mar 2011, 8:56 AM EDT

(NewsCore) - The notion of skimpily-dressed women gyrating around a pole is probably not a Vatican-approved method of prayer. But it's proving popular in one Texas town, where the residents are evidently keen to pursue a spiritual and physical regimen at the same time, myFOX Houston reported.

"I don't teach women to be strippers," insists Crystal Deans, owner of the Best Shape of Your Life studio in Spring, Texas. The one-time professional dancer leads female church-goers through the Pole Fitness for Jesus session every second Sunday of the month.

"We [pole dance to] the upbeat contemporary Christian music because people have to bring their church program to get into the class ... we basically are just continuing the whole worship thing here."

Despite the name of the class, there's no prayer beforehand or crosses hanging in her studio. But Deans, who attends church every Sunday, firmly believes that she's not just doing legs, glutes and upper body -- but more importantly helping people lead happier lives.
