Answer to Aurora Shootings Isn't Gun Control but God-Connection

LUFKIN, Texas, July 24, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- "It's not about guns, but sin," said Vision America Action President Dr. Rick Scarborough, a Southern Baptist Minister, referring to the shootings at an Aurora, Colorado movie theater, where 12 died and more than 60 were wounded.

"Many in our society, and especially many liberals, refuse to recognize the existence of evil," Scarborough explained. "Since they believe individuals aren't responsible for their actions -- that everything is determined by heredity or environment -- they flail about for explanations to mass murder, like 'easy access to firearms, or impoverished environment, including lack of education or access to opportunity.' But in Aurora, like Columbine more than a decade ago, the shooter had every opportunity and was well-educated. Still, he chose to shoot innocent men, women and children, and only killed 12 because of God's intervention. A fact no one seems willing to acknowledge."

Scarborough continued: "Rick Warren stated the obvious when he tweeted within hours of the tragedy, 'When students are taught they are no different from animals, they act like it.' Congressman Louie Gohmert essentially agreed when he stated: 'People say... where was God in all of this? We've threatened high school graduation participations, if they use God's name, they're going to be jailed... I mean that kind of stuff. Where was God? What have we done with God? We don't want him around. I kind of like his protective hand being present.'"

"How did the mainstream media react to such truth?," Scarborough asked. "Both men are being maligned and lesser men are refusing to speak up. The fact is that, as a culture, we have sown the wind and are now reaping the whirlwind. If people of good will and conscience do not stand up and demand that God be acknowledged once again in the public square, we are destined to continue our slide toward Gomorrah."

Scarborough disclosed: "We know the man in custody for these horrendous crimes was, until quite recently, a student in the prestigious neuroscience doctoral program at the University of Colorado. But intelligence isn't a safeguard against evil. Some of the brightest men in Germany conceived and carried out the Holocaust."

"Christians understand that there is evil in the world, and that -- as society turns its back on God -- His hedge of protection is lowered and evil grows stronger," Scarborough explained.

"As our society has become more corrupt -- as Americans have rejected Biblical truth -- evil has flourished. The spate of these seemingly senseless mass murders -- Columbine, Fort Hood, Virginia Tech, and Tucson -- are committed against a backdrop of 1.2 million abortions a year, 40% of all children in this country born out-of-wedlock and the ongoing war against our Judeo-Christian heritage."

"The answer isn't gun control but revival," Scarborough declared. "That's why a growing group of spiritual and political leaders have joined together to launch 40 DAYS TO SAVE AMERICA -- a time for all of us to pray, fast and turn to God in repentance, for only He can save our nation and reverse the downward spiral we are in."

Christians Uprising to Take Back Hollywood

Christian Professionals in the film industry are rallying together to reclaim Hollywood for Jesus Christ.
LOS ANGELES, July 23, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- For years, Hollywood dictated the moral compass of the nation, openly rejected religious films, and offered little family friendly value. This is nothing new. Christians have been attempting to penetrate Hollywood for as long as anyone can remember to no avail. But if you are one of the people that have been praying for the entertainment industry, your prayer is showing fruit. The Christians among the film industry are passionate to bring change to Hollywood and are coming together to reclaim it for Jesus Christ. Hence, came the birth of the Pan Pacific Film Festival.

Pan Pacific Film Festival, or PPFF, is an annual faith-based film festival in the neighboring communities of Hollywood. It is a place where Christian filmmakers can now benefit from a Hollywood forum where they can showcase their creative talent and help spread their positive message in a grander scale.

"It's incredible what God is doing," Ken An, Founder of PPFF said, "We started out just wanting a place to screen Christian movies, but now PPFF is a home for all creative believers, a center for Christian professionals to work on their craft, and an international provider of high quality family faith friendly content."

This year's festival is held at the Santa Anita Westfield mall in Arcadia, CA on October 18th -- 21st. Activities consist of film screenings of faith-based films, mini-concerts by Christian artists, workshops led by Hollywood producers, Christian talent search, and much, much more. The last night of the event will feature an Award Ceremony which has been referred by some as the "Academy Awards of Christian Films." The Ceremony honors the best films submitted to the film festival.

Just recently, PPFF has just launched a crowd-funding campaign through their partner, Ujimma. Ujimma is an exciting Christian crowd-funding start-up that provides a platform to connect Christian projects and those that want to be a part of their community. "We are very excited to partner with PPFF for this year's film festival. We both share and are passionate about empowering Christian creative talent with a forum to spread their wings." said Fernando Chavez, Founder of Ujimma.

Through this crowd-funding campaign, any believer from around the world will be able to support Christian films and filmmakers in Hollywood! PPFF will be offering incentives such as autographed posters, lunch with the executives, and lots of other unique rewards for anyone who feels compelled to contribute.

HURRY, IT IS NOT TOO LATE. If you have your own Christian content; share it with the world, visit www.ippff.com to submit your film. The last deadline is August 31st.

Woman Dead After Second-Trimester Abortion at Chicago Planned Parenthood

Obama called on to halt all Federal funding and personal support for Planned Parenthood
CHICAGO, July 22, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- A CBS news affiliate in Chicago is reporting that a 24-year old woman died Friday, July 20, 2012, after receiving an abortion from a Planned Parenthood clinic located at 18 S. Michigan Ave. in Chicago, Illinois.

The woman was transported from the Loop Health Center Planned Parenthood abortion clinic to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 11:20 P.M.

An autopsy conducted Saturday determined that she died from hemorrhage following a Dilation and Evacuation abortion. The D&E abortion method is one employed in pregnancies that have advanced beyond the first trimester. In involves opening the cervix and removing the pre-born baby by dismembering him or her. The Loop Health Center Planned Parenthood advertizes abortions up to 18 weeks.

"Abortion deaths like this are completely avoidable. When a woman bleeds to death after an abortion, it is usually an indication of error on the part of the abortionist coupled with a delay in calling for emergency assistance. Planned Parenthood should be held accountable," said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue and Pro-Life Nation. "Our heartfelt prayers go out to the victim's family at this time of tragic loss."

This incident follows a report published in the Chicago Tribune in June, 2011, that took to task abortionists in Illinois for failing to report abortion complications and exposed the fact that some abortionists did not report complications at all, in violation of the law. At that time, Illinois officials made no attempt to enforce abortion laws in that state.

While the name of the abortionist responsible for this patient death is currently unknown, Planned Parenthood's most recent 990 Tax Forms list abortionist Caroline M. Hoke as its Medical Director.

The abortion death took place in Obama's adopted hometown of Chicago at a time when his administration is working hard to provide funding to Planned Parenthood through the federalized health care system.

"In light of this tragedy, which is yet another in a long list of Planned Parenthood abuses, we call on President Obama to immediately withdraw all Federal funding and personal support from Planned Parenthood," said Newman. "Friday's death is yet another reason why men and women of conscience across this nation cannot and will not comply with the forced funding of abortion and its intentional violation of religious liberties."

New Poll Finds Nearly 8 in 10 Americans 'Frustrated' by Tone of Political Campaigns

Vast majorities say problem is getting worse and is harmful to country's political process
Contact: Andrew Walther, Knights of Columbus, 203-824-5412, Andrew.Walther@kofc.org
NEW HAVEN, Conn., July 24, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- Highlighting the angst of the American electorate over negative campaigning and personal attacks, a new Knights of Columbus-Marist poll finds that the public is increasingly frustrated with the tone of political campaigns and sees the problem getting worse.
The July 2012 survey also found that a strong consensus of Americans believes such negative campaigning is ultimately harmful to the political process.
Nearly 8 in 10 Americans (78 percent) say they are "frustrated" by the tone of political campaigns. Almost three-quarters say the problem is getting worse: 74 percent believe that the tone of political campaigns has "gotten more negative" than in past election years.
In addition, two-thirds of Americans (66 percent) believe candidates spend more time criticizing their opponents than addressing the issues, while almost as many (64 percent) say negative campaign ads "harm the political process" either "a great deal" or "a significant amount."
And by a nearly 20 point margin (56 to 37 percent), the public says the tone of political campaigns is "mostly uncivil and disrespectful." That number grows to 59 percent among registered voters.

"The American people want and deserve civility and a conversation on the issues rather than the personal vilification of political opponents," said Knights of Columbus Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. "As this current data makes all too clear, the American people want a political discussion that is civil and respectful. As Americans, we understand that we may not agree on every aspect of every issue, but we also understand that how we disagree says a great deal about who we are as a nation."
Anderson's 2010 book "Beyond a House Divided" chronicled previous surveys that showed a broad dissatisfaction concerning the political process among the American people, while finding that on many issues, there is far more unanimity of opinion among the public than is generally acknowledged.
The telephone survey of 1,010 adults was conducted from July 9, 2012 through July 11, 2012. It has a margin of error within +/- 3.0 percentage points.

Aurora church, 1 mile from theater massacre, aiming to convey that 'God is real'

AURORA, Colo. (BP) -- Less than a mile separates the movie theater in suburban Denver where 12 people were killed and Mississippi Avenue Baptist Church.

Aurora pastor Mitch Hamilton told the congregation Sunday that the bulletins for the service would not be of much use -- they were printed Thursday and then "everything changed" just after midnight.

While none of Mississippi Avenue's members were among the victims, four were in an adjacent theater and escaped unharmed despite bullets flying through the walls. Nevertheless, trauma permeates the suburban Denver community after the slaying of 12 people by a lone gunman, who also left 58 wounded.

A tearful 6-year-old girl came into Hamilton's office with her mother and asked, "Pastor, why did my cousin die?"

Often visibly emotional during his sermon, Hamilton assured the congregation that even though their normalcy has been shattered, Christians can answer the question of "How do I take a step forward?"

Hamilton urged church members to do so resting in God's presence and His promise to never leave them and trusting in the person of Jesus Christ.

While the church has offered public prayer services and counseling since the tragedy, Hamilton sees Mississippi Avenue members as being a key facet of reaching out to the hurting.

"We are equipping our members," the pastor said, "to share with our community that God is real, that He loves them desperately and that He will walk this road with them if they will only turn to Him."

As is often the case after a significant loss of life, Hamilton has been asked, "Where was God in all this?" His answer, quite simply, is that "God is here."

"He is with each one walking this road and He offers His presence to any who will call upon Him," Hamilton said. "He was with the injured and the medical teams as they sought to preserve life. He was with the first responders as they responded to the call to save lives."

Calif. College Drops Action Against Student Promoting Christian Event; Policy Unchanged

A California community college student will not have to face a disciplinary hearing after all for distributing religious fliers in the same location used by other students to promote non-religious activities on campus. However, the college district said it is not planning to revise the policy that led to the problem for another six months.

"The university is supposed to be the marketplace of ideas, not a place where free speech is a punishable offense," said Legal Counsel David Hacker of Alliance Defending Freedom. A letter from ADF to the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District prompted the withdrawal of the hearing for the Grossmont College student, according to the legal ministry.
"We commend Grossmont College for dropping the unjustified disciplinary hearing against our client, but as the Constitution requires, the college still needs to take prompt action and change its vague distribution policy to prevent any future discrimination against faith-based groups and activities. We'll be monitoring the situation to ensure that the necessary changes are made," Hacker stated Wednesday.
In May, a student was denied the use of tables and chairs for the National Day of Prayer event a Christian club on campus was organizing, even though the club had made reservations in advance as stipulated by the school's policy, ADF stated.
"When the student later distributed fliers for the event in front of the student center, the same location where other groups promoted non-religious activities, the associate dean instructed her to stop, citing college district policy," according to ADF. "The college then took punitive action against the student by initiating a formal disciplinary hearing and placing an academic hold on the student's account."

Miami School Seeks to Evict Church for Anti-Gay Sermons: ‘Contrary…to the Basic Principles of Humanity’

A Southern Baptist church called Impact Miami could soon be evicted from its meeting place at the Miami-Dade County Public Schools because of its position on homosexuality, which the school board describes as “contrary…to the basic principles of humanity.”
The church reportedly pays roughly $1,500 a month to use the high school facility on Sundays, and both its congregants and pastor feel they are being unfairly punished.
“I never thought I would be penalized for teaching on Christian marriage and sexual ethics from the Bible – the very bible that presidents swear on,” Pastor Hakimian said.

More teens using condoms over past two decades

By LAURAN NEERGAARD
AP Medical Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) - Nearly half of high school students say they've had sex, yet progress has stalled in getting them to use condoms to protect against the AIDS virus, government researchers reported Tuesday.
Today, four of every 10 new HIV infections occur in people younger than 30, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention _ and the teen years, just as many youths become sexually active, are key for getting across the safe-sex message.
Using a long-standing survey of high school students' health, the CDC tracked how teen sexual behavior has changed over 20 years. The results are decidedly mixed.
About 60 percent of sexually active high school students say they used condoms the last time they had sex, researchers said at the International AIDS Conference. That's an increase from the 46 percent who were using condoms in 1991.
"This is good news," said Dr. Kevin Fenton, director of CDC's HIV prevention center. But, "we need to do a lot more."
