U.S.A Restaurant Owner Fined For Flying American Flags

Some American flags in Crystal River are causing a stir.

Linda Downey is the owner of Taste of Philly in Crystal River. She put six flags on her restaurant to honor the military and her two sons serving in the Navy.

However, the City of Crystal River says the number of flags is a code violation. The city's flag ordinance says businesses cannot fly more than three flag within city limits.

City leaders say the flag ordinance is in place to ensure that the American flag is not overly-commercialized. Even so, leaders admit some changes to the code might be necessary.

In the meantime, Downey says there is no way the flags are coming down.

"All these people fighting for our country and we're not allowed to display flags in their honor," Downey said.

Raymond Colvard served in the Air Force. He appreciates the gesture and says the flags need to stay.

"I think they should change their law," Colvard said. "If it is a law on their books change it."

The Crystal River City Council will meet Monday at 7pm. Discussion about the ordinance is expected.
