A Christian pediatrician shares what he does in his practice to keeps costs down for parents.
A report
released on July 1 shows that spending on healthcare for children grew
faster than spending for adults over the past four years. In a
first-of-its-kind study, the Health Care Cost Institute tracked changes
in spending, prices, and use of healthcare services by children (up to
age 18) covered by private employer-sponsored health insurance. The
report found that per capita spending on children's healthcare rose
nearly 19 percent from 2007 to 2010.
Dr. Tom Benton, a
Gainesville, Florida pediatrician, noticed in the study that a lot of
money is being spent on mental health. He tells OneNewsNow how his
private practice tries to keep costs reasonable for parents.
"When
a child comes for evaluation of depression or some other mental health
condition, I do not have as my first reaction to put them on medication,
but [instead] try to explore alternative treatments that might be
helpful," he shares.
