Former Abortionists Join the Pro-Life Movement

Pro-Life Action League Hosts CONVERTED Conference
CHICAGO, Sept. 12, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- A new Gallup poll says, "Americans now tilt 'pro-life' by a nine-point margin." But it's not just the general public that is turning against abortion. Some within the abortion industry itself have now come around to the pro-life side. On September 22, the Pro-Life Action League will present the testimonies of seven women and men who worked in the abortion business at a conference entitled, "CONVERTED: From Abortion Provider to Pro-Life Activist."

This conference at the Crowne Plaza O'Hare in Rosemont, Illinois will bring together doctors, nurses, and counselors -- including former employees of Planned Parenthood -- to tell their pro-life conversion stories. In different ways, the conference presenters came to reject the "pro-choice" view, and are now speaking out about what it's really like inside the abortion business and why they now find abortion to be abhorrent.

Abby Johnson, whose story is told in her book, UnPlanned, had a dramatic change of heart after she assisted with an ultrasound-guided abortion as the manager of a Planned Parenthood facility in Texas. She is now reaching out to abortion clinic workers to encourage them to leave the industry. Sue Thayer, also a former Planned Parenthood manager, had a change of heart with the advent of "telemed" abortions, in which a doctor remotely dispenses abortion drugs without ever seeing patients in person.

One-time abortion counselors Catherine Adair and Linda Couri both made 180-degree turnarounds from promotion of abortion to pro-life advocacy -- Adair after witnessing the grisly results of a second trimester abortion.

Ruth Yorston quit her job at Women's Health Organization abortion clinic to head up a regional Right to Life group once she realized that the "products of conception" were really babies that both science and faith recognize as living human beings.

Former abortionist Dr. John Bruchalski and in-vitro fertilization specialist Dr. Anthony Caruso have both renounced the destruction of human life and now devote their professional careers to nurturing and defending life in the womb.

These seven speakers, along with emcee Dr. Anthony Levatino, himself a converted abortion provider, make up the slate for the all-day conference. Levatino was a speaker at the first such forum in 1987, titled "Meet the Abortion Providers."

"People need to hear these stories," said Ann Scheidler, vice president of the Pro-Life Action League. "The former abortion providers converted to the pro-life side not for purely intellectual reasons, but because they beheld with their own eyes the horrors the abortion industry is executing in the name of 'choice'."

About the Pro-Life Action League
The Pro-Life Action League was founded by Joe Scheidler in 1980 with the aim of saving babies from abortion through direct action. Not content to await a political or judicial solution to abortion, the League seeks to stop the killing of unborn children right now through all available peaceful means, including public protest, sidewalk counseling, education, youth outreach, and national leadership.
