PARKER — Driving through the Panhandle, churches and liquor stores are a
reoccurring sight and though the two make up much of the landscape,
never the twain shall meet.
At least not in Parker.
Current ordinances prevent businesses where alcoholic beverages are
sold from being established within 500 feet of a church in Parker.
However, an amendment recently introduced to the City Council may soon
extend the prohibition to the establishment of churches near places that
sell alcohol, including grocery stores and restaurants.
The measure is a tit-for-tat, according to Councilman Michael Miller.
“We are just making it reciprocal,” Miller said. “I just questioned why it doesn’t work both ways.”
