U.S Fails To Come Through with 1.15 billion Dollar Donation To Help Haiti

(CNN) -- Six months after a devastating earthquake struck Haiti, most governments that promised money to help rebuild the country have not delivered any funds at all, a CNN investigation has found.

Donors promised $5.3 billion at an aid conference in March, about two months after the earthquake - but less than 2 percent of that money has been handed over so far.

Only four countries have paid anything at all: Brazil, Norway, Estonia and Australia.

The United States pledged $1.15 billion. It has paid nothing, the money tied up in the congressional appropriations process.

Venezuela promised even more -- $1.32 billion. It has also paid nothing, although it has written off some of Haiti's debt.

Altogether, about $506 million has been disbursed to Haiti since the January earthquake, said Jehane Sedky of the United Nations Development Program.

I saw CNN cover this story yesterday and it sickens me that over a billion dollars is just sitting not being used while the people in Haiti are homeless, and starving.

The U.S was one of the biggest contributors (supposedly) but not one cent of the money that was raised by millions of American citizens and even our government has gone to help. It is sitting there not being used. While Brazil, Norway, Estonia and Australia have come through for Haiti and given the money they promised. But still even with those 4 countries coming through with donations and funds to help the people only 2% of that money has been given to help the people of Haiti.

I am sickened by what the U.S has become. We have a president and elected officials that promised better for the American people but yet we are still in the biggest recession/depression since the 30's. Unemployment is at an all time high since the great depression and on top of this money that all ready struggling Americans have given in donations to help Haiti is not being used. Our Government is withholding all that money and it's just sitting there while people continue to struggle to survive not just here in the U.S but in Haiti as well.

America is suppose to be a beacon of light but all I see is darkness and evil. While other countries are stepping up and doing the work that the U.S is not doing any longer.

This country is no longer the land of the Free and home of the brave. We are as many call us today a fallen country. Socialist, Marxist Dictator Government. When I hear American Citizens say this as well as Citizens of other countries it sends a chill up my spine.

We as American Citizens need to rise up and stop our Government on the path it is currently on. Protest, write blogs, articles, and share about how our donations and money that was given to Haiti is not helping them.

If we don't get this money and help the people of Haiti, then who will be willing to help us when disaster strikes our land?
