Steve Amerson to Sing at the Medal of Honor Convention

HONOLULU, Oct. 1, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- On October 6, 2012 Steve Amerson, America's Tenor, will be singing at the Congressional Medal of Honor Convention's Patriot Awards Dinner in Honolulu, Hawaii.
In October 2009, Steve was presented the "Bob Hope Award for Excellence in Entertainment" at the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation Patriot Award Gala in Dallas, Texas. This award recognizes distinguished Americans who have made notable contributions to our nation and the values we hold dear through their life's work in the entertainment industry. For the past several years Steve has sung at Medal of Honor events across the country including those at the New York Stock Exchange, the Reagan Library and in Dallas, Texas.
More than 50 of America's 81 living Medal of Honor recipients will be honored at the 2012 Medal of Honor Society Convention in Honolulu, Hawaii from Oct. 1-6, 2012. Recipients from World War II up to the current conflict in Afghanistan will be in attendance. The Medal of Honor Society gathers each year to reunite living members, as they continue their legacy of inspiring our youth, honoring patriots and memorializing those recipients who have passed.
The Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor that can be bestowed upon a member of the U.S. armed forces. During the past 151 years, fewer than 3,500 recipients have been awarded the medal. Only 81 living recipients remain today, including two from Hawaii.
"We are truly humbled and proud to share the 'Ohana culture, traditions and splendor that is distinctly Hawaii with our nation's most revered heroes," said retired Navy Admiral Thomas Fargo, co-chairman of the convention's host committee and former commander, U.S. Pacific Command.
The convention will be funded entirely by contributions, with more than a dozen corporate sponsors already committed as contributors. The convention will feature public and private events and activities in and around Honolulu, including community outreach activities to students and veterans.
Several events are open to the public including the Recipients' Memorial Stone Dedication at the National Memorial Cemetery, a downtown Honolulu Block Party on Friday, October 5, book signings by the recipients on October 6 at the Hale Koa Hotel in Waikiki and the Patriot Awards Dinner on October 6.
